Take one home today!

How would ya like a cool SPLASH!? My name’s Splash and I’m a real cool kitten! I’ll keep you laughing with my cute kitten-antics, and purr you to sleep when we get too tired to play. Our rooms here at Dogwood are crowded, so we’re hoping you come and adopt a cat or kitten very soon! One more urgent plea from the feline crew here: PLEASE SPAY & NEUTER TO ELIMINATE NEEDLESS SUFFERING! We keep moving over to make room for more homeless cats, but space has run out.

(PS: You can now submit an online adoption application via daslakeoftheozarks.com!)

I was born with a built-in wink! Just kidding! I was born with only one eye that works! But don’t worry – I get along just fine! Guess, if you never had two eyes to begin with, one does the job really well! I’m a beautiful and sweet tortoiseshell and have been at Dogwood since September, 2016. Though it’s really nice here, I’m ready for a forever home and a family of my own now!
I sure hope you’ll come and visit me soon! Just stop in and ask for Angel Eyes ‘cause that’s me!
Maybe the fourth time is the charm! I’m seven years old and came to Dogwood as a kitten. I’ve been adopted three times and, each time, was brought back! NOT ‘cause I was a bad boy, ‘cause I’m not! My “forever” families just fell on hard times. I loved each of them but they couldn’t keep me. Thank goodness Dogwood took me back every time and is taking care of me until I can find a REALLY forever home! I get along with all my friends here and am a very sweet boy! Could you please come visit? Just ask for Bijou! Maybe you’ll even love me and keep me forever and ever!
My mom loved me so much but she couldn’t keep me anymore! I sure miss having someone to cuddle with and love! I’m hoping I can find a forever home soon! There are SO many kitties out there who need help. If I get adopted, there will be room for one more at Dogwood! I have been declawed, so I need to be an inside kitty! I would take good care of you…..promise! Please come meet me! Just ask for Persia – that would be me!

I’m lucky – I’ve had some really great human friends in my life. And not just at Dogwood; I’ve been considered family, with a real home and everything. I really miss that.

But peoples’ lives change, so here I am – again.

I’m one of the best loved dogs here because of my nice manners and affectionate nature. It’ll be easy to fall in love with me, but I’m holding out for a one dog family – that dog being ME, Maycee!

Someone tried to shoot me, so I ran away and took my eight babies with me! Thank goodness we were found and brought to Dogwood! My babies and I were fostered by some kind folks! The babies have all been adopted, now I need a forever home! Fortunately, Dogwood is still offering $50 adoption fees for senior dogs, with approved application! Now, I don’t consider myself a senior (I’m in my prime), but I do qualify! So, if you have a few minutes, why not come to Dogwood and visit me. My name’s Lily but they all call me “Sweet Lily” ‘cause I am!
They say you’re only as old as you feel! I feel pretty darned sprightly for my eight years! I’m very happy to have been brought to Dogwood when I had nowhere to go! The folks here take good care of me and have even taken me to obedience class! Older dogs CAN learn new tricks, you see! Now I’m ready for a family of my very own to love! SENIOR DOG DAYS has been extended through May 31st at Dogwood. This means adoption fees for kennel dogs like me, six years and older are reduced to $50 with approved application. There's something extra sweet about the friendship of an older dog. Please come meet me and experience it for yourself. Just ask for Seymore!
I’m a fun and feisty six year old girl, living at Dogwood Animal Shelter for the past few years. Life here is comfy but, truthfully, it can get a little boring! My VERY favorite days are when volunteers come and play fetch with me. They try to wear me out, but I always outlast them! Hey – I challenge YOU to a game of fetch! Wanna bet on it? If I win, you can adopt me! (Senior Dog Days are still going on, so my adoption fee is only $50!)
Come on out this week and let’s give it a go!
See you soon!
Love,
Ginger
Seems like just yesterday I was one of Dogwood’s silly flippy-floppy puppies. Time sure flies! Now I’m seven years old and being featured as one of Dogwood’s Senior Dogs.
That means my adoption fee is only $50 ‘til May 15th!
I was a super cute puppy, but I’m much wiser and better behaved now. Maybe some of you can relate?
And, maybe you and I are meant to become fur-ever friends. Easily done – just come by the shelter ASAP and ask for me, Stella!
I used to sleep next to my owner’s bed. I can’t anymore because my family moved and couldn’t take me with them. I’m glad Dogwood is helping us young “seniors” this month! Adoption fees for senior dogs six years and older are $50 with approved applications! I’m a spritely seven years old and have been a good inside boy! I would love nothing more than having someone to talk with and rub my belly! Oh, and maybe I could sleep next to your bed at night? If you’d like to come visit me, just ask for Jake!
My folks loved me enough to leave a note with my name and birth date when they dropped me after hours. The shelter folks welcomed me with open arms when they found me here. That was three years ago. It’s comfy here, but I really miss being someone’s special buddy. I’m hoping Dogwood’s Senior Dog Days will bring that special someone here for me! There’s a great walking trail at the shelter – why not come by and we’ll try it out together?
Hope to see you soon!
Chewy
Why hire an interior decorator? YOU can make a fashion statement and spruce up your home this spring! All you really need is Calypso! This beautiful kitty has colors to match almost any décor! OR….you may want to change your color scheme to match Calypso’s! Additionally, Calypso is sweet and gets along well with children and doggie friends! Chances are, she will probably also match or accent your canine friend! BUT WAIT! Did you know that kitty adoptions are now only $35?! This includes spay/neuter, shots and a microchip! SO, you get a fashion statement, do-it-yourself interior decorating, a family friend, shots, spay/neuter, microchip and unending love all for $35! WOW! Pretty hard to beat!
Pregnant and alone. That was me just a few weeks ago. I’d just about given up hope. Then someone brought me to Dogwood! I was given my own room and a bowl of warm, home cooked food. What a relief to have a safe place to give birth and raise my puppies! Now that they don’t need me anymore, I hope to find a human family to love. Come soon, and ask for Princess.
I’m Missy. My sister and I have been Dogwood residents for 10 years! We’re smart, pretty and LOVE people. The problem is, we don’t mix well with other dogs. But someone wonderful adopted my sister a couple of weeks ago; a human who understands that some of us are just more comfortable with members of another species than with our own. I’m glad that she finally has her fur-ever friend. I hope it’s my turn very soon!
Henry the Handsome – that’s me! I’m not only handsome, but loving and smart as well! I’m looking for a forever home right now and thought you might be looking for a kitty forever friend too! WOW! Maybe we could help each other out! It’s spring and Dogwood will be getting SO many new kitties to care for. If I had my very own home and family, it would make room for another kitty who needs Dogwood’s help! Maybe you could stop by and meet me and give me a little ear rub while you’re here!

Lookin’ for a runnin’ buddy?  Well, I’m your guy!  I’m a yellow lab mix and love to run with the wind blowing through my hair and whistling by my ears!  I’m good with children, cats, other dogs and have a lot of love to give!  I’d love to please you if you’ll take a little time to show me how!  So, if you love to run like the wind and are looking for a loyal best buddy to be by your side, just come to Dogwood and ask for Doc!  That’s me, you know.

Well, I’m back.
My name’s Pearl. I first came to Dogwood as a little orphaned kitten – feeling alone and afraid. I found out pretty fast, there’s plenty of kindness and comfort here.
I was one of the lucky ones – found a good home after just a few months!
But recently, my adopted family and I had to part ways. It just wasn’t possible for them to care for me any longer.
I’m so happy that they trusted Dogwood enough to bring me back here. These folks will find me a great new family – and meantime, I’ll be OK. Plenty of food, friends, soft beds and snuggles!
Only thing is, I hate to take up space here when there are so many more needing Dogwood’s help. If you’d like to add an adoring, but low maintenance friend to your life, come adopt me!
Our house burnt down and my family moved away. They took the other dog, but left me chained to my dog house with no blankets, food or water. It didn’t seem fair. Maybe it was because of my bad foot. Anyway, It was really cold outside, so I was very thankful when someone took my chain off and brought me to Dogwood. I’ve been warm, comfy and well fed ever since, plus I’ve made LOTS of great friends! But they’ve told me that life will get even better - when someone falls in love with me and takes me home with them!
My name is Coffee – come take me for a walk and we’ll brighten each other’s day!
No one came looking for me. I wandered too far from home and ended up alone, scared and freezing cold! I was picked up on the highway and brought to Dogwood. Thought sure my family would look for me here!
That was quite awhile ago, and I’m still here. Now I’m waiting for a new family to adopt me. Meantime, I’d love to take you for a walk around the trail here. Come visit, and ask for Buzz!
It’s my turn to sit in the pretty red chair! At Dogwood, us kids have to learn about taking turns, sharing toys, walking on a leash and other hard stuff. That’s because the people here love us! They want us to have really good manners so we’ll get good homes. I came here with my two sisters and one of them has already been adopted! Waiting for my turn! Come visit this week – and ask for me, Cassidy!
Know what happens when your mom doesn’t get fixed? You and your brothers and sisters get born and, mostly, aren’t wanted. If you’re lucky, you get brought to Dogwood! If not, it can get pretty scary! We got lucky! We’re safe, warm and get plenty to eat at Dogwood but we sure would like our very own families to love! Pretty soon it will be Spring and there will be many homeless kitties needing help. If we get forever homes, Dogwood will be able to help the new kitties. I’ve got lots of love to give! If you need some, please come and ask for me. Name’s Sloan!
Show me a little bit of love and I’ll jump right into your arms! I’m Holly, and you’ll find me at the receptionists’ counter at Dogwood Animal Shelter. I’ve been living here since before Christmas. A couple of guy dogs and I had been wandering around in the cold, looking for someone to let us in. We didn’t know how lucky we would be! The boys are both receiving training at prisons now, and I’m helping out at the front desk here, temporarily. I fit perfectly on a lap, and I’m so friendly, I will probably get adopted real soon!
I was left behind when my family moved! My leg hurt me an awful lot – I don’t know why! Thank heavens my nice neighbor brought me to Dogwood! My friends here saved me but my little leg couldn’t be saved! I don’t miss it though! I’m doing just fine with three legs and can keep up with the best of ‘em! What I’d really like is a forever home of my very own. I’ve got an awful lot of love to give! Maybe you could visit and I could give you some! Just ask for Gigi! That’s me!
How come I gotta live in the clinic if I’m not even sick? They say the kitty adoption rooms are so full there’s no space left for me and my sister! That’s because lots of cats out there aren’t lucky enough to be spayed or neutered, so they keep producing babies that end up here. We’ve been here since October and were hoping for permanent homes by now. The adoption fee’s only $35 for cats now and we’ve all had our shots, been spayed or neutered and have a microchip! And whether you adopt or not, PLEASE take advantage of Dogwood’s reduced spay/neuter prices this month! It’s getting really crowded in here!
Feeling Frustrated,
Oscar

Nine years!  That’s how long I’ve been at Dogwood!  I don’t know why because I’m very beautiful, sweet and gentle!  Maybe it’s because there are so many of us here!  I sit at the front desk to keep the staff company and I love looking out the window during the day but it’s not the same as having my very own forever home!  I was thinking……maybe you have a nice window just my size.  I could sit in it and be part of your family!  Oh!  My name’s Tess and I’d sure like that.

Wine and cheese get better with age. Just like me! I’m going on 7 years old and I keep getting smarter and better looking all the time.
I’ve lived here for 6 years now, and I just know my lucky day can’t be far away. I’m hoping to celebrate the new year with a new best friend, so if you have the same hope, maybe we should meet.
Come to Dogwood soon and ask for me, Levi!
Gettin’ in the Christmas spirit!
I lost my happy home, it ‘s true. But, I’m countin’ myself lucky to be here at Dogwood. I’m gonna keep a happy smile on my face ‘cuz I just KNOW I’ll be adopted soon!
I’m Opie. C’mon over and meet me. You can even borrow my antlers!
I loved to sleep next to my owner’s bed each night but they had to move and couldn’t take me with them. I miss them. I’m so glad Dogwood is taking care of me but I really would like my very own family to love. I’m going to wait for Santa to come….maybe he’ll bring a new forever family! If you see him, please tell him I’ve been a good, sweet boy this year and please don’t forget to tell him my name is Jake!

My friend and I were attacked by a pack of other dogs. We were so scared! I’m sorry to say my friend did not survive but I was brought to Dogwood where they loved me and took care of my wounds. I’m all healed now and ready for my forever home. I’ve got a lot of love to give - maybe you’d like to come for a visit and meet me! Just ask for Emma – please.

I’m Mickey.  I’m excited that it’s my turn to be Dogwood’s Pet of the Week!  I’ve been living here since August.  I was hanging around McDonald’s, hungry and hoping for a hand-out. What I got was even better – a ride to Dogwood Animal Shelter!  These folks not only filled my tummy, but got rid of my fleas and cured my sore skin too!  And now they’re giving me obedience training.  They say even an old guy like me can learn a new trick or two!

So, I’m all spruced up and looking for a new home. Come on out to the shelter and let’s get to know each other.

Curious, fun loving teenager - eager to meet ya! I’m Gilley, and I’m tired of waiting my turn for adoption. Just let me lock eyes with you for one minute, and I’ll be snuggling and purring my way into your heart!
Come and meet me. I double dog dare ya!
A golf course is kinda big and scary - especially at night! I felt like a little lost soul until someone picked me up and brought me to Dogwood! The folks here are nice and have great senses of humor - they named me Divot! I sure would like to have my very own home though, with my very own family to love me! And you know what? I can't wait to love them right back!

Unwanted?? We heard we were from an unwanted litter. All we know is that we’re having a grand time here at Dogwood – got lots of friends, toys and all the food our bellies can hold! We’re sure hoping SOMEONE will want us soon though, ‘cuz there are other kitties still out there – unwanted, like we were. When we’re adopted, there’ll be room for them here.
Think about it, please?
Love,
Addie, Ellie, Tiny, Tootsie and the Gang
Wishing you a Merry Christmas from all the furry friends at Dogwood Animal Shelter! I'm Hope. I was found wandering last year lost and alone but guess there was no room for me because nobody would take me in! Then I was brought to Dogwood and that's where I found hope...and my name! Now I'm not afraid anymore, I have all the food I want, a warm bed and lots of love! I'd love to find my very own home for the holidays, but if that wish doesn't come true, a visit from a new friend would be great! Hope to see you soon!

A heart as big as a lion – in an 8 pound housecat! Johnny has a knack for knowing when someone’s in need. Cat, dog or human – it doesn’t matter to him. During his years at Dogwood, he has comforted the motherless babies, the sick and dying, the lonely. He’s a friendly face, greeting everyone who comes in! He was rescued from a euthanizing shelter, where he was going to be put down because he has diabetes. Here, he’s fed a special diabetic cat food (which he loves!) and that’s enough to keep him in good health! Johnny is a favorite at Dogwood, but we know he’d be happiest in a real home. Come by and meet him sometime. Like all of us, you’ll enjoy knowing him!

Sure glad there was “room at the Dogwood inn” for me! I was found wandering around a church and a nice man brought me to Dogwood! I’m so happy to be warm and safe! I’ve got friends here who take care of me and friends to play with! I’m wishing for a forever home of my own though, and my very own someone to snuggle and play with. Maybe you could come and visit me! Just ask for Zuzu, ‘cause that’s me!
ADOPTED!
Wanna laugh and feel good inside? You probably need me then! I’m six months old, so cute you can’t stand it, and full of fun and love! I love to pounce, snooze, and snuggle – not necessarily in that order! I’m wishing for a forever home and family of my very own. Maybe you have room in your heart and home for me? If you have time for a visit, I’d be really happy to see you. Just ask for Walter!

ADOPTED!
They call me Droopy Snoopy ‘cuz of the way I look.  But I don’t feel droopy!  I feel happy ‘cuz I’m learning all kinds of stuff in the Puppies For Parole training program.  That means when I come back to Dogwood, I’ll be sure to get a great new home – and quick!
Since it’s Thanksgiving, I wanna say that I’m grateful for ALL the folks who’re helping me and all the other Dogwood dogs and cats!
See ya later!

I don’t know what “passed away” means, but it’s why my lifelong human friend isn’t with me anymore. It’s confusing, but I finally understand that the sweet, comfortable life we enjoyed together is over.

I’m living with new friends now at Dogwood Animal Shelter. Everyone here is so welcoming, and that makes it easier to adjust.

I do hope to begin another great friendship soon, with a warm hearted human. I hope you’ll come visit me here at Dogwood when you get a chance.

Love,
Ebony

I just wanted to shop! Well, maybe I WAS a little lost and scared! Thank heavens I happened upon Dogwood Thrift Shop! The nice people there knew just what to do to help me! They brought me to Dogwood Animal Shelter and now I’m not scared anymore! Did you know they feed me and take care of me while I’m waiting for my new forever home? I was thinking….maybe you could stop by and see if I might be a good fit for your family! Just ask for Nessa – that’s me!

Triscuit’s my name! I’m just one of many beautiful kitties at Dogwood waiting for forever homes! We’re so blessed to be here, safe and sound! Now, if you adopt one of us, the cost will only be $35 and includes spaying/neutering, shots and a microchip! It’s a good deal – we will have forever homes and there will be more room at Dogwood to help even more kitties!
ADOPTED!
Starbuck's my name! It was pretty awful living on the street. It was scary and very hard to find something to eat. I'm so glad I was brought to Dogwood! I feel so good and safe now, with a full tummy and lots of love from my friends (furry and not furry)! The only thing I'm missing is a home to call my own and my very own lap to curl up in. Please come and visit and....bring your lap!
ADOPTED!
I'm a bargain!  Did you know that Dogwood has lots of loving kittens and cats like me? When we get adopted, there will be room to help other kitties struggling to survive on their own!  That's why, if you adopt one of us during October, the fee is only $35 and includes spaying/neutering, our shots and a microchip!  In return, you and your family get lots of love and fun and we get loving forever homes!  Oh!  I forgot!  You might want to ask for Bernie (that's me)!

I’m one of the littlest guys here, but I’ve managed to make a big spot for myself in these folks’ hearts!

My name is Earl. I’m a six month old chi mix. When you come to meet me, I’ll probably play hard to get at first. Won’t be long though, and I’ll make a big, comfy spot in your heart too!

I sure hope I get that chance soon!

I stayed right where they left me and waited faithfully. I waited a long time. They never came back. I was almost ready to deliver my babies. I was so tired and worried. When I’d just about lost hope, a nice man stopped, let me into his car and brought me to Dogwood! I gave birth and raised my beautiful pups in safety and comfort. We are all ready for adoption now. I’m a smart, friendly 3 ½ year old Blue Heeler mix named Jessie. Got room in your heart for me?
ADOPTED!
"Our" dear Watson was born at Dogwood! Watson, his mom, Jessie, and three sisters are a happy little family but are looking forward to forever homes of their very own! It's elementary! Dear Watson, Jessie, Evie, Annabelle and Dora all need homes and someone out there probably needs a really good friend (or two)! Why not stop in and meet them? They'd love to spend time with you!
ADOPTED!
I just LOVE to go for walks! Know why? "cause there's a friend on the other end of my leash! I'd really like to have a forever friend of my very own to love! I've been told I'm a sweet boy so, maybe - just maybe - you'd like to stop in and take me for a little walk sometime. I'd sure like to meet you! Just ask for Java!
ADOPTED!
Know what? I can do some special tricks! I'm also a very obedient, playful and loving girl! So, why not come see me and maybe throw a ball or two in the play yard? You see, I'm hoping to find my forever home and maybe that will be with you! Please stop by for a visit and ask for Artie (that's ME)! Maybe I can do a trick for you! Okay?
ADOPTED!
What did I do wrong? I was an innocent little girl, loving life. Then, suddenly, I landed in a kill shelter in another state! I have a lot to learn, I guess. I'm so glad Dogwood microchipped me and that someone at the kill shelter contacted my friends here! Long story short, I'm back-safe and sound! Now I'm looking for a new home. Ideally, I'd like to have some space to play, but I do love to snuggle in with my human at the end of the day. Please, come see if you could love me. Ask for Copper.
ADOPTED!
One morning, I woke up and found myself in the kennel outside Dogwood. Nice people took me inside and cared for me! Whew! I've made myself quite at home, living in a big room with my friend, Marley. She likes having me around as she's quite crippled and likes me to cuddle with her on the big fluffy bed. I feel very needed now that I have such an important job! If you need a cuddler in your life, I'd do a great job! Stop by and ask for June! Maybe we could go for a walk together!
ADOPTED!
Well, I was scared! That's why they had to chase me down the highway and save me from being squished! Sure am glad those nice folks brought me to Dogwood! I'm having a good time here, meeting new people and making friends! I like kids and other dogs. In fact, I pretty much like everybody! I'm just looking for a forever home where my own special someone will love me. Could you please come for a visit and play with me? Just ask for Chase!
ADOPTED!
Boy! Cars sure go whizzing by fast on these lake roads! I didn't know which way to go! So glad I was picked up, brought to Dogwood and given the cool name, Banjo! I feel safe and loved here. They feed me, pet me and take good care of me! I'm going to stay here and wait for a forever family to come and get me. Then I'm gonna love them....a lot!

Feeling pretty dapper these days! I'm Peanut and I got treated to a make over at Sylvia’s Pet Grooming! When I came to Dogwood after losing my lifelong companion, I was a mess. I guess I sorta let myself go during my grieving time. But things are looking up for me now, and I’m just waiting for a new companion to come along. There’s another old gentleman here, similar situation. He came in looking like a matted mess, and Sylvia’s got him looking like a million bucks now too! She’s the best! Anyway, come to Dogwood and ask to meet me. I’m ready for my very own snuggle-buddy!

Bet you didn't know a Duchess could graduate from Puppies for Parole! I went from wandering about Ha Ha Tonka, scared and alone, to the safety of Dogwood! Well sir, once I arrived at Dogwood and settled in, I got to go to Puppies for Parole and learn new commands and tricks! It was such fun! Now I'm hoping for a forever home and family to love. Maybe you could come see me. Just ask for Duchess! That's me!

Five babies and they abandoned us!  Why didn't they get me fixed?  That was last year.  Thank goodness someone brought us to Dogwood!  My babies are grown now and I finally have time to play with my friends!  I'm hoping that someone will stop by and visit with me and my friends. My name's Xena but, with all the sweet kitties here,  I'm sure you'll find someone to love!  PS:  We'll love you right back!

I’m on the MEET ‘N GREET team here – or at least I should be! I absolutely LOVE getting to know new friends! My name’s Maggie and I’m so grateful to have been rescued from the busy highway and brought to Dogwood. I’m waiting here for a new family to share all my love and joy with forever!

We're beautiful in basic black! There are lots of kittens living in the kitten room at Dogwood! Being kittens, we pretty much have a blast playing, pouncing and hiding! Some of us were born here and some of us were lucky enough to be brought to Dogwood as abandoned babies. If you're looking for fun and a lot of love, we've got you covered! Maybe you have room in your home and heart for one of us. Hoping.......

BACK WHERE I STARTED!!!
Thank goodness my loyal friends at Dogwood took me back when my adoptive parents couldn’t keep me anymore. They whispered in my ear that I’ll always be loved and cared for here, and they promised to help me find a real fur-ever home. My name’s Odie, and I’ll be here, playing with my buddies ‘til that day comes! You’re always welcome to come play too!
ADOPTED!
My family forgot to take care of me! I had a pretty bad boo-boo on my neck but the folks at Dogwood got me all fixed up and I'm as good as new now! I'm almost a year old, happy & friendly! I'm wishing for a family to love me and I promise to love them right back! Maybe you could come for a visit and let me love you a little while you're here! Just ask for Grace. That's me!

I'm Thelma and I need your help! I'm a contestant in the Dogwood's Biggest Loser contest! I heard how Dogwood's supporters helped Gypsy lose weight last year by giving her lots of extra walks - I know that could work for me too! I love people, am easy to walk with and SO VERY GRATEFUL for any attention I get! Just stop by Dogwood after 10 am Monday-Saturday. I'm always ready at a moment's notice. I'm counting on you!
ADOPTED!
Nobody wanted us! We're Felicity & Ellie! Our moms weren't fixed and had too many tiny mouths to feed so we were very hungry....but we're lucky because we were brought to Dogwood! We get to run and play, have full tummies and lots of TLC! Now, all we need are forever homes of our own! There are so many of us here with so much love to share. Maybe we could share it with you! Okay?

IT WAS ALL THE SQUIRREL'S FAULT!

I chased and chased him - I ran too far and I've never found my way back home.
I'm at Dogwood now, waiting for a new home. I love to go running, but now I'd rather run with a human friend.

And...I've decided that chasing a ball is just as much fun as chasing squirrels.
So come out to Dogwood and let's get to know each other. My name's Rex.

ADOPTED!
I was shopping for a bite to eat 'cause my tummy was grumbling. A guy can get awful hungry when he's lost! I'm so glad I was brought to Dogwood where I don't have to dodge cars anymore and there's plenty to eat! My name's Tyson & I love to snuggle! Could you come to see me please?

Mama had ten of us!
She got to Dogwood just in time, so we had it much easier than most.
My name's Archer. My family and I are grateful to YOU for providing help and funding to Dogwood so they can help us and hundreds of other homeless animals.
In fact, Mama isn't homeless anymore - and we're hoping to find homes soon too!
Come on by and we'll try to convince you with LOTS of puppy kisses!

It was sad to say good-bye to Mom. After she had us pups, the house was too crowded, so we had to go. The Dogwood people love us and are taking good care of us while we wait for new homes. They even "fixed" Mom so she'll never again have more babies to say good-bye to. My name is Alice, and I'd like some special person to love me forever. Could it be you?

I was born on the wrong side of the tracks. Life was never easy for me.

Actually, life's been REALLY easy. Mama took good care of all ten of us, then Dogwood stepped in and made things even easier. We kids are old enough to be adopted now - and are we READY! We'll need everything though: training, consistency, patience, and most of all - love! We'll give it right back though. Promise! I'm Gidget. Come get me!

Now, all I need is a pal!

Mom protected me and my siblings when we were tiny, then the Dogwood people took us all into the safe shelter. They showed us how good it feels to be loved, taught us nice manners, and gave us everything we needed to be healthy.

I’ve been out to meet folks at the nursing home and at Petco – I just know there’s someone out there for me! Maybe it’s you! Come by soon and ask for Logan.

You're never too old to make a new friend. My buddy Jackson and I recently had to part ways with our faithful human friend. Very sad, but unavoidable. I'm eight years old but I feel like I'm in the prime of my life - got lots of love left for a new best friend! Come ask for me, Lady.

Shhhh...It's nap time again! This family loves snoozing together in a big cozy heap. They and their mom, Sheba, came in out of the cold several weeks ago. Thanks to you, Dogwood has been able to provide everything the family has needed. Now they just need loving homes.

I sure miss her! I know she misses me too! You see, my owner couldn't get around too well anymore and had to go somewhere so they could take care of her. Trouble is, she couldn't take me with her. Sure glad Dogwood was here! They like me a lot here 'cause I'm so sweet, calm and loving! I bet you'd like me too! Name's Lucky and I don't take up a lot of room on the sofa!

Belated Christmas joy…
I’m Alana.  My brothers and sisters and I were born at Christmas time.  Lucky puppies are born into loving families with people anxiously awaiting.  But we were not wanted.  The joy – and relief – came later, when we were given a room at Dogwood!  We’ve been eating, playing and growing since then, and now we’re ready for YOU!  Come play awhile – maybe even think about taking one of us home?

It wa s very hot in the shed where I was found last summer with my brothers and sisters! Gosh! We could hardly breathe! Thankfully, we were saved and brought to Dogwood! Some of us have found our forever homes, but my brother, Tyler, and I are still waiting. I'm only seven months old, playful, loving and ready to brighten up your life! Maybe you could stop by and cuddle me a little. Just ask for Sally - that's me!

Antony & Cleopatra - that's us! We kinda go together like peas & carrots! We were left to fend for our little selves but thank goodness we were brought to Dogwood! We're safe in the kitten room now but we sure would like to have a family of our very own! We think the only thing better than one kitten is two kittens but, if you don't have room for us both, it will be okay. We each will know the other is safe in a loving home! Please stop by for a purr...or two!

I was lost, hungry and very skinny. I was just trying to find something to eat when a kind lady rescued me and brought me to Dogwood. Now my tummy is full, I'm safe, warm and cared for! No worries except maybe who's going to scratch behind my ears today! Don't get me wrong, Dogwood's great but I sure wish I had a family of my own to love. I'm Duchess and I'm a really good girl. Maybe you could come visit me. An ear scratching and some pets would be awfully nice too!

Life in a shed with my mom and four brothers and sisters wasn't so good! Good thing we got found and brought to Dogwood! Now I've got plenty to eat and a nice, warm place to sleep. Only thing is, I sure would like my very own fur-ever home! I'm very friendly so, if you come visit us teenagers in the kitten room, I'll probably be the first one to greet you! Hope you can come to see me. Just ask for Tyler! I'll be waiting!

I was abandoned at the Department of Conservation with a couple of my friends, and we ended up here at Dogwood. My buddies are lucky little lap dogs, so they've already been adopted. I'm happy for them, but I gotta ask: How come dogs my size have a harder time finding a home? We're every bit as lovable! I'm always polite in the house and friendly to everyone.
I'm always up for meeting new folks, so come by and ask for me - Siren.
See you soon!

Yeah, I’m tiny. But I’m still one tough guy! Listen, I collided with a car a couple years ago, and all I’ve got to show for the fight is a slight limp. (Ok, maybe it’s a prominent limp.) I survived though! I love meeting new friends, playing and snuggling. Come by and visit me – ask for Chico.

I’d love to be your Valentine gift! My name is Li’l Girl. A couple of years ago I was rescued, along with my six kittens, from an abandoned house. My babies have all been adopted. I’ve been patient, but I really want it to be my turn soon. Please come see me. I’ll be your adoring friend forever. I’m sure we’d enjoy each other’s company!

I came for the Bingo games and never left! Actually, one of Dogwood’s bingo players found me out on my own. She couldn’t keep me, so she brought me with her to Dogwood to see whether they had room for me. I’ve lived here a couple of months now, and I’m grateful to be in a safe, warm place for sure! But I’m watching for that perfect new best friend to go home with. Meantime, visitors are always welcome here! (Bring a brush and a treat please!) See you soon!

It was a sad day when my owner got sick and had to go away and I couldn't go with him. I am 11 years old now but I still love to play "fetch!" I'm housetrained and get along with the other dogs at Dogwood. I would love to find a forever home where I could get lots of cuddles and attention 'cause I'm a lovey kind of guy! Would you please give me a chance to love you? And, by the way....my name's Hercules!

I'll meet you at the door! Hi - I'm Audrey! I came to Dogwood a terrified young mother of five, distrustful of everyone. Now, I'm a confident, loving cat- one of the first to greet visitors here! ( I had a lot of help from some of Dogwood's awesome volunteers!) Come meet me - I'm ready to be your best friend for life!

If you're looking for a perfect cat, please come see me! You see, I'm used to living in a home but my owners couldn't care for me any more. I'm nine years young, so am past that pouncy, run-around-the-house phase! I'm sweet and cuddly and still have lots of love to give! I get along with other cats and even enjoy the company of a dog now and then! By the way, I'm Bella! That means beautiful........

Too many cats, not enough food, no love.....that's how it was before I was rescued and brought to Dogwood! Now that I'm here, my tummy if full and I get loves and hugs! I'm very friendly, get along well with other cats and love to be held! So, I'd fit right in if you already have a furry friend! Anyway, I've always thought two cats on your lap would be better than one! My name's Posie. Maybe you could stop by for a visit and a little scratch on the head. Okay?

It was pretty scary having to fend for myself on the streets! I'm so glad they brought me to Dogwood where I'm safe and sound! My name's Odin and I only have one eye. I don't remember what happened to it, but nothing slows me down! I love to play and go for walks and am getting pretty good on a leash! Want to stop by and take me for a little walk? We could get to know each other. A guy doesn't need two eyes to love you.........
ADOPTED!
Wish it would've been me who got sick instead! I'm Zoey. My owner became too ill to care for me and my life got turned upside down! The folks at Dogwood take good care of me but I'd love to spend my last years in a home of my own again with my own person to love. I promise to be true to you!

I’m Buster! Not to brag, but I’m a Dogwood Canine Coach favorite because I mind so well! Not easy for a young boy, but the secret is to pay close attention to the human critters (you never can tell what they’re gonna do next!) I love to play too, of course. But my favorite time of day is cuddle time.
Why not stop by and meet me soon?

Dogwood has been home base for me, and boy, am I thankful! They took me in - a tiny cold pup - in the dead of winter a few years ago. Saved my life, for sure! I'm really friendly - I even smile on command - so I've been adopted. A few times, actually. The loss of a job and other human life changes keep landing me back here. I'm grateful for the safety and friendships here, but would love to finally be home for real. Come see me - Sky's my name.

Winter’s coming. I know how lucky I am to be safe and warm at Dogwood Animal Shelter. Too many of my furry friends are still out on their own, with little food and no one to love them. It’s pretty dangerous out there! You know, if you come to the shelter and take one or two of us home with you, you make space available for more of them to come in out of the cold. You actually save lives! My name’s Jilly. Hope to see you real soon!

That’s all it’s gonna take to prove what a good dog I am! I’ve been so well behaved here at Dogwood that I get to go “off campus” with volunteers for all kinds of fun events!
I love meeting new friends – two and four legged ones.
My name is Hope, and I’m hoping to meet my new BEST friend real soon!

I love running and playing!
I’m such a happy pup since I’ve gotten healthy and loved at Dogwood Animal Shelter. This is SOOO much more fun than toughing it out on my own like I used to do.
My name’s Sky, and the sky’s the limit as far as how much love I have for you.
I hope you’ll show up soon!

I've been waiting here for over two years now. I've been a really good girl, go to all the events, got trained at Puppies for Parole. The Dogwood people love me a lot and tell me I'm a beautiful girl. So, why am I still here? Come visit. Take a few minutes to get to know me please.

A safe place to live, where everyone is loved. No matter what. At Dogwood, there are dogs and cats of all shapes, colors, sizes and abilities. Even some disabilities. Myself - my head tilts a bit. I don't know why. But I feel just fine, and I can be as good a friend as anyone else can! That's the most important thing we learn here - how to be a good friend.
My name's Marble. Maybe you are the best friend I've been waiting for!

I’m living proof that even cast-offs can be great pets, with just some love and a proper upbringing! My name’s Elmo. I’ve been a Dogwood dog since I was a young pup. Is there anything cuter than a snagglepuss?! But, actually, I’m a snugglepuss! My favorite thing to do right now is to hang out on the patio and enjoy the warm, spring sunshine! I get along with all my roomies at Dogwood, so if you have a home with other cats, I’d fit right in! If you’d like a warm, cuddly snugglepuss and have a sunspot somewhere in your home, maybe I could come live with you! Okay?
Love, Bugsy

Hi!  My name’s Peanut.

I was brought to the shelter three years ago with my five babies. I have been here ever since! All my babies were adopted, but I'm a little on the shy side. It may take me a little longer to warm up, but I really am a very sweet girl.

If you come to visit me at the shelter, please ask for me because I stay back in the clinic. It’s a little quieter here and I like that.  I hope to see you soon.

Love,
Peanut

Bugsy

ADOPTED!
Bugsy
is one of the most loving, affectionate dogs at the shelter. A one year old male, Bugsy is a little shy, but loves people, other dogs and especially children. He has learned to walk beautifully on a leash. Because Bugsy is so attentive and wanting to please, he is easily trained. Treats? You don't need them. He's happy with hugs and kisses! Bugsy's only problem is that he's a black dog and therefore difficult to adopt. Anyone who looks past his color will realize quite readily what a wonderful guy he is.

Have we met someplace before? Maybe at vacation bible school, or at the library? I'm on the go a lot because I love the social life! For now, I'm calling Dogwood Animal Shelter home. My name's Levi. Why not come take me out for a walk? We might be meant for each other!

Angels are real! One of them scooped me up off the cold, scary streets and brought me to the warmth and safety of Dogwood Animal Shelter. I love my new friends here. We romp and play fetch until we’re all tired out, then find a warm, comfy lap to doze on. I thank my guardian angel every day for choosing this place for me to wait for my fur-ever home! My name is Quincy . Please come adopt me soon. When I move out, some other lucky pup can move in!

I win! This was a "Most Photogenic" contest, right? I'm Willow; a beautiful, energetic young girl, and I'm doing my best to keep things jumping around this place! This is way more fun than scrounging for something edible and dodging cars, which was my life before Dogwood. Now I'm looking for someone to adopt me. Hey- why don't you come by here and meet me? You'll see how incredible I am!

I ALMOST STARVED TO DEATH!
I was so weak and sick when I came Dogwood that I needed a blood transfusion. This shelter is just FULL of friends – all of them ready to lend a helping hand (or paw)! A big, nice girl named Oreo let me have some of her blood, and I was cared for around the clock. And, I was learning how nice it is to feel loved! I’m still a bit thin, but gaining every day! It’s so great to feel like a healthy pup! They say I can go home with a new family now that I’m so much better. So, I’m waiting – and hoping I get that chance real soon.
See you soon!

Truly, I'm as sweet as can be. I love to be walked and do very well on a leash! I've made lots of friends at Dogwood and we get along very well. I took very good care of my babies - maybe you'll let me take good care of you! Please come and meet me, okay?

I hated being alone. I was always so scared, and my tummy never felt full. I like it here at Dogwood because I’m surrounded by playful friends and the food bowl never goes empty! Now we’re at Dogwood, safe and sound and ready to start our lives in loving homes. My name’s Crescent. Why not come meet me and my family here. Maybe we’ll fall in love with each other!

We'll just need a little spot - in your heart and in your bed please?

I could use some help learning as I grow up, but I promise to try and be the best boy ever! Come visit – ask for Brady. Hope to see you soon!

They always look so happy; I think I want to go too! Come visit anytime. Only this time ask for me – Josie. I want it to be my turn next, please.

I’m a grateful young cat from a litter of seven, born almost a year ago. Some of my brothers and sisters have been adopted, but my brother, my mother and I are still at Dogwood – and we’re really lucky to have shelter and full tummies every day. I’m speaking up to ask for help – not for myself, but for hundreds, maybe thousands of others. Many babies will soon be born. Too many. Shelters and rescues are already overcrowded, so where will they all go and what will happen to them? This tragedy doesn’t have to happen. With a little help from you, Dogwood’s low cost spay/neuter clinic can prevent literally thousands of births – saving lives and helping our community. If you or someone you know needs help getting a pet (or even a stray like my mom was!) spayed, please call Dogwood – they will find a way to help! Thank you. Love, Glitter

I'm one of last year's babies, but definitely NOT yesterday's news! I'm one of the most beautiful and loving young cats at Dogwood. I've lived here since I was a kitten. Why am I still here, you ask? There are literally thousands of us, and there simply aren't enough homes for everyone. I count myself lucky to at least have a spot here! If more litters were prevented through spay and neuter, maybe I'd have a chance at a new home. Wishing and waiting, Meg

Please come visit me; I promise to brighten your day!

But the dark days are all behind me now, thanks to a lucky break that landed me (and my brand new kittens) at Dogwood. We've known comfort and love since we came through these doors. My babies have all been adopted, and I'm waiting for my turn now. Come and meet me. You'll love my sweet disposition and grateful spirit!

Whew! Just sittin’ here taking a break! I’m all about playing! Name’s Reno and I was brought to Dogwood after I was found wandering the streets lost and alone. I’ve made lots of new friends here but I sure would like a home of my very own! I’m about a year old, really like kids, and everybody here says what a good boy I am! I’m just a little guy, so I won’t take up much room in your home! Could you maybe stop by and play a while?

WOW! Thanks for the fuzzy toy! Until I came to Dogwood, I never had a real toy! You see, my three brothers and I were found abandoned and all alone at a farm out in the country. What you see is what you get! Hi – I’m Jake. I’m considered one of the old guys here at Dogwood, but before you put me out to pasture, here are some things to think about; while the cute puppies are rowdying around, acting like they can’t hear a thing you tell them, chewing up everything in sight and generally looking for mischief, I’ll be faithfully lying close by, watching and waiting for your next command. Sure, I like to run and play – but I know how to behave in the house too. Come on out to Dogwood when you get a chance. Let’s take a walk together. I could sure use a companion as faithful as I am.

Socks is my name! I’m eight months old now and was brought to Dogwood when my owner got too sick to care for me. I’ve made a lot of new friends here but I sure would like to have a family of my very own to care for! I get along well with other cats, so a home with some furry friends would be nice. I love to be held and will snuggle all day long, so please stop by for a visit and a snuggle! I’ll stay right here and wait for you! Love, Socks

My owner got too sick to care for me so I came to Dogwood! They take good care of me here but I'm ready for a family of my very own! I'm Gypsy and I'm about five years old. I get along with everybody, even cats! I do love a good walk, a nice ride in the car and a good game of "chase!" Please stop by for a visit, I love to make new friends. Love, Gypsy

Hi! Joey here! I've been here at Dogwood now for two years. I love to be with people so, spending time with you is my favorite thing to do! I am seven years old, house trained, good with other dogs and kids and love to fish! But most of all, I'd love to have a family of my very own! You wouldn't have to take me fishing - I'd be happy just to be near you! Love, Joey

Name's Hurley and I'll be here waiting in case you need a friend. Love, Hurley

Hi everyone! I’m Ambrose! My kitty friends and I would like to invite you to the Kitten Room at the shelter for some playtime. Not to brag, but we're pretty good at having fun! We love to run and chase each other all over the place and have the best time! I'm known around these parts as one of the best cuddlers there is. If you sit down, I'll be the first one on your lap and the last one to leave. Come by and see for yourself! Love Ambrose

Hi! Cassidy here! I was rescued from a bad situation and ended up at Dogwood! Thank heavens! I’ve made lots of good friends here and get along well with everyone who comes to visit. I'm learning to walk on a leash and all kinds of other things. But best of all, I LOVE a good belly rub! Maybe you could come take me for a practice walk - including belly rub!. See ya soon! Love, Cassidy

My name is Charlie! I am two years old now. I got lost and wandered into the Dogwood Thrift Store last year. What a blessing that was for me! I am a really good boy and get along with everyone from kids to dogs and cats. I love to go for nice walks, so please stop by while the weather is so nice and we can go for a stroll on the trail. Hope to see you soon. Love, Charlie

Hi! I’m Poe! I'm having a lot of fun here with all my friends, but I've heard that some dogs have their own families to love and their very own toys (not that I mind sharing)! I'm sure looking forward to that. If you'd like to share your life with me, I'd love for you to come by and make me your own. Hope to see you soon. Love, Poe

To know me is to love me! I’m Elmo. I came to Dogwood with my sisters a few months ago. We’ve been having a good time, learning a lot and growing up! But we’re starting to realize that we may be missing out on something– we want families of our own. We’ve got love and fun to share! The weather’s been beautiful - you could come by the shelter this week and we could take a stroll together on the walking trail. Hope to see you real soon!

We were born to have fun! We are Norton and Kane, two lucky cats who came here with our moms early this spring. We say “lucky” because life is so much better here at Dogwood than it was out in the cruel world with no place to call home. We’d be even happier if we had real homes to live in and people of our very own to love! And then our spots here would open up for some other cats in need. Maybe you want to make a kitten’s life happier by coming over to play awhile? Toys are great, but people make them better!

I’m Shiloh. My brother and I were left to fend for ourselves at a very young age. Thanks to a nice lady, we found ourselves safe and sound at Dogwood. Now we’re getting a really good start in life! We’ve made good friends, learned to play with toys and to get along with everyone. The joy of being a puppy is you get to play hard all day, nap whenever you want, and look cute doing it! What a life! Hope you’ll come see us really soon – we can always use another friend!

Hey - What about me? My mom came here to Dogwood just before she gave birth to me and my 12 brothers and sisters. She and most of my siblings have been adopted now. There are only a few of us left, and we're starting to wonder if we'll ever get noticed! I'm just a pup, but I'm old enough to know that I'd LOVE to have a human family of my own! Come visit very soon please - and ask for Shakespeare. That's me!

My name is Lego and I feel like a million bucks! Several weeks ago, I came to Dogwood hurting pretty bad.  I’d been hit by a car and my leg was so busted up, there was no putting it back together.  Dr. Jesky fixed me up!  Now that leg is gone and I don’t miss it a bit!  It’s great fun to run and tackle with the other pups here.  We really work up an appetite!  Then a quick nap together, and we’re off and running again.  You just gotta come and meet me – I might even stop playing long enough for a cuddle with you.

I was a helpless, tiny kitten all alone when someone brought me here. With the help of Dogwood’s caring people, I’ve grown into a beautiful young lady. My name is Meg. I’m five months old, and I’m considered the “big sister” of the kitten room because I’ve been here the longest. I’ve loved it here, but I think my job is done and I’m ready to find my forever home. I’ve got love, gratitude and devotion to offer! Come meet me soon!

I’m Moses. You can read my story in Dogwood’s latest printed newsletter, "Paw Prints." The short version is that I was really in dire straits but, with some luck and a lot of TLC, my life is 100% great now! I look and feel like a new dog, and I am so grateful! I’ve met some other dogs here at Dogwood who feel the same way. From all of us, THANK YOU to all the folks who help the shelter that helps us!
I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life; maybe that includes you?

Hey, quiet down! I'm trying to tell everyone that they need to come to Dogwood Animal Shelter to adopt a couple of us adorable kittens! Things are getting a little crowded in here. So many kittens have been born or dropped off that the shelter is bursting at the seams! So here's my idea.....take two! That would give us someone to play with and we wouldn't be lonely all day. Also, I"m told that the second cat would be half off. I'm sure that's half off the other guy cuz I'm totally worth more than anyone else. See ya soon!

You’ll get no nonsense from me! I’m Sashi, the Shih Tzu, and the only word to describe me is “perfect”. I’ve been loved and taught well, and I have impeccable manners. I do not chew on things, I do not potty in the house, I like everyone I meet, and I love to cuddle. You won’t find a more loyal, easy going friend! Of course I have a sad story – most of us do - but I’m ready to put that behind me and be happy with someone new! So, when are you coming over to meet me?

I'm a ballplayer by avocation! I just love the game! My name's Scruffy and I'm three years old. I was found, not neutered, wandering the streets. So, if you're looking for a well-behaved furry friend and you like to play ball, I'll be here. Waiting.

I get along with everyone, dogs or cats, so if you already have furry family members, I will fit right in. Please come by for a visit, we'd all love to see you.

Another day, another unwanted litter of pups. I wish I wasn't one of those sad statistics, but here I am. I'm Luna; genetically, an intriguing mix, emotionally, a baby needing love. My mama's name is Maxine and she's the very best! I have a bunch of brothers and sisters, and mom has been our provider and protector through thick and thin. We were out on our own, mama and us, for awhile, and she kept us just warm enough, made sure we had something in our bellies and kept us safe. Now we're all at Dogwood - what a relief! It's so warm here, and the food bowl's always full! We've never rested so easy. You can come and visit us at Dogwood anytime! Maybe even take one of us home with you...

“Look at those ears!” That’s what people say when they first see me! My name is Josie. I’m a little over four months old and I am LOVING life! I have so much fun here, playing with the other dogs and meeting all the nice people who come here. The little people are especially fun to play with because they like to run, just like me! I wish I could go home with someone like that. We could run and play fetch together. When we wear ourselves out having fun, we could snuggle up and take a nap til it’s time to play again! Wanna come and visit me today?

Babies, left out in the cold. That was me and my sister. We huddled close together and wondered if we would survive the night. But then angels appeared and rescued us! They warmed us up, fed us, and brought us here to stay for awhile. We’re feeling much better now, and I think we’ll be able to find a new place to live with people who will love us, and always keep us close and safe. That sounds like heaven! Meantime, we’re making lots of friends here and trying hard to learn some manners. (We’re just kids, so please be patient!)

Anyway, come see us please – your visit will be the highlight of our day!

I’m lap-size! I’m short and cute and just about perfect in every way, really!

When I came to Dogwood, my skin was real itchy and sore, but the folks here knew what to do. They said I’d feel better soon, and boy, do I! I’ve got lots of friends here now, and I’m plenty comfy. Still, I just know someone out there needs me to be their cheerful and faithful companion.

Don’t be shy - come on in and get to know me – and some of my pals here. We’ll brighten each other’s day!

I wonder where my mom and siblings are! The people we were with did not like us for some reason, and threatened to shoot us. Then, someone came and took all of us babies away – which was good! It was hard finding places for all of us to go. I ended up here at Dogwood. I hope the rest of my family was as lucky!

My name is Beau and I’m almost four months old now. I’m waiting here for someone to adopt me. I really hope it’s somebody nice, because now I know how great it feels to be loved by humans!

Meanwhile, I’m enjoying the food, warmth, and friendship at Dogwood. You can come anytime and meet me. I’ll just wait here for you.

I’m Orchid! I came here with eight other dogs. We’ve seen some pretty harsh times in our lives as puppy mill dogs. It’s kind of a long story how we landed here, but I’m so glad we did! I bet we looked like a real mess coming in. I had mats so tight against my skin, it hurt! Dogwood’s grooming friend, Sylvia, helped me a lot, and I feel much better now. My friends and I want to say thank you to all the people who helped us by donating to Dogwood. It’s so good to feel love and comfort from humans! You’re welcome to visit us anytime. And, we’re adoptable now!

I'm sure you will find someone to touch your heart.

Hi! I'm Raymond, and I have a sister named Zola. We used to live with a family but, just beforeThanksgiving, they all left - and they never came back. We were left alone. Now we're at Dogwood and we're starting to feel better about things. We've learned that we can always count on people to play with us and take care of us every day, no matter what! We are about six months old now, and we love to play! We really like the folks here, but we're each hoping to go home with our very own family soon - one that will never leave us - before we're all grown up!
Waiting and hoping,

I just don’t get it. I thought I’d have a nice family of my own by now. I’m really disappointed that I’ve been living here for over a year and no one has taken notice of me yet.

I’m Alice . I was hanging out on dangerous Hwy 42 when a nice tourist saw me, picked me up and tried to find my owner. No luck. (I could’ve told her that if I could speak Human!) Anyway, when she had to leave the lake to go back home, she brought me here. I love hanging out in the front lobby of the shelter! I get along with all my friends here, and I know I could get along with everyone at your house too!

Stop by soon. We can go for a walk and get to know each other….please.

Hi! My name is Rufus. I was brought to the shelter in November looking like a wild man with my hair all sticking out! The people at the shelter couldn't even tell that I was a purebred Schnauzer. THEN I got to go to Sylvia's for a make-over and now I look like a million bucks! I'm housebroken and get along with other dogs. I'm good with kids, too! Maybe kids that like to play ball and tug of war cuz those are two of my favorite things! I hope to see you sometime soon....I'd really like to be "Home for the Holidays".

Hi! Name’s Bud! I got nabbed by the police a couple months ago, but I swear I’m innocent! My only crime was being lost. Good thing the police believed me (whew!) and brought me to Dogwood! Now I’m learning to walk on a leash and sit when I’m told to! Sadly, my owner hasn’t come for me, so I just keep practicing my good behavior and waiting for some nice family to take me home with them. Hey, wanna stop by and help me practice walking on a leash?

Where’s our mom? I can’t remember what happened. I know that we had a mom – a nice, warm mom who loved and cared for us – and then she was gone. My brothers and sisters and I were alone in the world. We were scared, and real hungry. We huddled together to stay warm. It’s much better now that we’re at Dogwood. We’ve got full bellies, a warm place to sleep, and people to care for us. We’re still a little sad about mom, and that gets us thinking about all the dogs and cats still out on their own. If only they could know the warmth and love that we are enjoying now.
When we all get adopted and move out of Dogwood, there’ll be room for some of them to move in. Looking forward to that day!

I’m always happiest when I can cuddle in someone’s lap, so maybe you could come and visit me some time......bring your lap!

My name is Biscuit (you might have heard about me) and I want to tell you some things that I’m thankful for. I'm thankful for the one who didn’t look the other way when he saw my terrible predicament. I'm thankful for the healing love I’ve received here at Dogwood. I’m ESPECIALLY thankful for all of the donations that were given to help pay for my medical bills. I'm thankful that I’m finally healed enough to be adoptable! I wonder and worry a little though; how many other little ones are still out there alone. I hope I’ll get a home soon, and that all my friends will too. That way, there’ll be space here for those who still need it.

Aged to perfection. That’s me. But I never dreamed it would be like this. I'm 13 years old and was fortunate to spend all those years with a dear friend in a nice, cozy home. My long time companion passed away, and suddenly I’m in a very different place with too many other cats for my liking. I get lots of love and attention here, but I miss my old home where I could roam around outside awhile, then come back in whenever I wanted. I wish someone would look past the kittens and see how good a friend I can be. I can't guarantee that I’ll live for a long time, but I can guarantee that I’ll love you for the rest of my life.

Hi! I’m Rebel! I got that name ‘cause I’m always yelling! I yell when I want to eat, when I want to be held, or any time things aren’t going my way (politely, of course)! I was found in the woods by Dogwood when I was too small to eat on my own, so I was fostered by one of the ladies until I was old enough to live at the shelter. My best buddies here are Peyton and Fender. Just like everyone else here, we’re waiting for our fur-ever homes now. We’re all pretty sweet – and VERY entertaining! Please come by to visit…playing and cuddling are our favorite things

NOT a junkyard dog...Hi! I’m Leanne, and right now, I live at Dogwood. When I was a tiny baby, a nice lady found me running in the road by a junkyard. (I don't know why I was thrown away like a piece of junk!) I'm sure glad she brought me here - I'm getting lots of love and attention every day! And TREATS.... I do love my treats! I'm a really good girl and get along with all my buddies here at the shelter...even the cats! I'm not that big right now, but hopefully I will be someday. I'm hoping for a nice big yard to run in. Wanna stop by the shelter and visit me? I'd love to meet you!

Hi folks. We’re Connor and Duffy. We came to the shelter as tiny kittens with our brother, Mac. We got to be in a home for a little while until we got big enough to eat regular kitty food. Mac has found his forever home and now it's our turn. We are six months old now and ready to come home and settle in your lap and watch TV. We have lots of friends and fun things to do here in the kitten room. Please stop by sometime and see for yourself! We can provide hours of entertainment for you and your friends. We'd love to go home together, but we understand if that’s just not possible for you. Hope to see you soon.

Hi everyone, this is Peyton and Drew coming at you from Dogwood Animal Shelter. You caught us taking a break from our usual running around and chasing each other. We are three months old now and ready to run around your house! We are both girls, but got named after football players, go figure. We do like playing with toy footballs, so maybe it makes sense after all. We get along well with the other dogs and puppies and don't even mind the cats when they follow us around. So if one (or both) of us sounds like the dog for you, maybe you should come by and see for yourself what a wonderful addition we would make to any family.

Destiny. That’s my name, but I wonder what my destiny actually is. Due to a series of unfortunate events, I’ve been moved from family to family, and now I’m at Dogwood – again. I’m a real friendly girl. I know several tricks; I like to shake hands and give high fives! I also sit when I’m told to, especially for a treat! I’m not even two years old yet, and I love to have fun playing with other dogs. Just like all the other dogs and cats here, I’m counting on Dogwood to help me find just the right person. It would be fun finding our destiny together!

Looking forward to meeting you,

I have been through the Puppies for Parole program and have earned my Canine Good Citizenship certification, so you know I'm really smart. I love to go for long walks and am very good on a leash. I'm hoping, now that the weather is so nice, maybe you could come for a visit and take me for a stroll on the trail. Hope to see you soon.

Stopping to smell the flowers here on the Dogwood Animal Shelter walking trail. Wanna join me? I’m Beasley, a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel, who made one life changing mistake. I was accidentally startled out of a sound sleep by a small human and I accidentally bit him. I loved the little tike, and wouldn’t have ever done such a thing on purpose, but, well…it happened. So now I’m here, hoping and praying for another chance. I’m a friendly greeter for everyone who visits here, big and small. I don’t make messes in the house, I walk willingly on a leash, I sit on command, and am very polite. Good looking too! My favorite part of the day is walking the trail here. Will you come walk with me? I’ll be waiting. Love, Beasley

Good times! Well, sort of. There was never really enough to eat, and no safe, cozy bed for night time. Most of all, no one to call my own. So, I’m waiting here for someone who will give me all that. And in return, my undying affection! Come see me please, and take me for a stroll. I look forward to meeting you!

Clay

Hi! Name's Skinner! I'm only four months old yet I'm a pretty lucky guy! You see, I was found abandoned at Dogwood Animal Shelter. My tail really, really hurt - A LOT - when staff found me near the garage! I'm too little to remember 'xactly what happened to my tail before I came here but it was bad enough that a nice doctor at the shelter took off the bad part and now I'm as good as new! I've been told I'm the sweetest, most loving kitten because, with all I've gone through, I've been purring since they found me! I only get sad when I think of all the little kittens not as lucky as me who are out there left to fend for themselves. Gosh, I wish everyone would spay and neuter their pets!

I’m Haley! I was found lost in Macks Creek with no place to call home. I looked everywhere, but couldn’t find my people! I'm glad I was brought to Dogwood Animal Shelter! I've made lots of friends here. I need some room to run and play ‘cause I’m only a little over a year old and still have a lot of growing up to do. I’m a little shy when I first meet folks, but I warm up pretty quickly. If you are looking for a really sweet girl with a lot of energy, please stop by for a visit. Hope to see you soon,

Everybody here’s got a story to tell. I’m Lyndsey, and here’s mine:
I was adopted in 2007 and thought I had it made. But in the winter of 2012, I found myself out on the street alone, cold and hungry. It’s hard to describe my relief and gratitude when someone brought me to Dogwood – warmth, food, kindness at last! While here, I’ve been befriended by Carla and Creed from KK Jewelers, who visit me every week. They’re helping me learn new things all the time and are trying hard to find a new family for me. I’m grateful for all of Dogwood’s volunteers who make life so much better for us while we wait. Come visit soon, please!

I’m Bella and, before you pass judgment on me, hear me out. The truth is, my friend Chance and I were only playing with our family’s cockatiel! We didn’t mean to hurt him but, suddenly he stopped playing. Turned out we had accidentally killed him. After that, things were different and we had to move to Dogwood. Chance was adopted already, but I’m still here - waiting. I’m an Entlebucher Mountain Dog which is the a pretty cool type of dog from the Swiss Alps. I’m known to be devoted, agile, loyal, intelligent, self-confident, independent, loving and.....I would really do well in a home without a cockatiel! Please come and see me soon.

Hi - I’m Suzie. I came to Dogwood in May with my seven brothers and sisters. EVERYONE found a home but me. . . I don't understand it. I love everybody I meet, and I’m always on my best behavior. Sometimes it doesn’t seem fair that I’ve been overlooked. I miss my brothers and sisters a lot and I think a loving family of my own would make me feel better.

Can you please come see me? Maybe you’re the one I’m waiting for.

Love,
Suzie

Hi! I’m known as Magic Mike because of my mystical way of attracting
just the right people at just the right moment!

I was nothing but another stray dog in need, but I got the attention of some great folks – I mean REALLY great - who saved me, took me to the vet for a health check, vaccinations and the works, and even made it possible for me to stay there, safe and sound, until there was room for me at Dogwood! This place is wonderful – for a temporary home. I REALLY want to find my permanent home though.

Besides being kind of magical, I'm also potty trained, friendly with other dogs,
a good swimmer and a good companion on car rides! I’m hoping my magical attraction powers hold out ‘til an awesome person comes and adopts me!
Could it be you?

Hey – What’s up?
I’m hangin’ out here at Dogwood Animal Shelter - along with LOTS of other kittens – just waiting for YOU to show up and adopt me! I’m Apricot, a little boy from a family of five. Mom was put out to fend for herself when she became pregnant with us. The Dogwood folks took good care of her so she could take good care of us! Now she’s spayed, and we’re all ready to start fresh. PLEASE come and meet me – I love people, and I’m real hopeful that someone will love me right back!
See ya soon,

Sometimes humans can be so wonderful! I'm Sheba and I’m temporarily living at Dogwood Animal Shelter after being rescued off the street. I’m just a sweet little old lady who accidentally wandered too far from home. It was scary being lost and so close to the zooming cars. I’m kind of sad that no one from the home I remember has come looking for me. So now I'm looking for someone new. I’m housebroken, quiet, and leash trained. I don't need much, just a nice walk a couple times a day - and lots of love, which I’ll return to you tenfold!

Hope to see you soon!

Hi everyone. My name is Mac! My friend Freddie and I were brought to the shelter after our family's house was foreclosed on. We were left behind to fend for ourselves and let me tell you, it was pretty scary. We are both older dogs and we've been used to being taken care of all our lives and to have this happen at this stage of our lives, well, it's just the saddest thing. I'm housebroken and pretty mellow. I've made lots of new friends here and play with them on the patio some, but I would love a home of my very own with a nice soft pillow to lay my head on. I would make someone a wonderful companion, just give me a chance.

Love,
Mac

I’m Lilly, and I LOVE to play! I am a poodle/dachshund, so I’ll stay pretty small.
Being under a year old, I’m pretty energetic at times, but I also love a good cuddle now and then. My mom and I were brought to Dogwood when our owner couldn’t care for us anymore.
I'm trying hard to learn all the rules and stuff – I’ll do whatever it takes to get someone to love me as much as I love them! I hope you’ll stop in and meet me soon. Bring a ball when you come!

Since then, I've seen a lot of pets come and go....and here I am, seven years old and still looking for my forever home. I would love to find a home with a nice yard to play in! I have completed my obedience training with the Puppies for Parole program and am a VERY good girl. I just need someone to love and someone to love me. Maybe that someone is you. Look forward to seeing you soon.

My name's Quincy . I consider myself to be a very lucky girl! I'd been out on my own for quite awhile and was starved half to death when a nice young man, new to the area picked me up. He found Dogwood and brought me here, where I've been getting lots of TLC and as much food as I want! I've been thinking about those dogs and cats who are still out trying to survive the winter weather. Believe me, I'm grateful to be here! But my dream is to be part of a real family. I'm young, smart, healthy and I love to have fun! When I wag my short, stubby tail, the rest of my body wags too! I'm learning manners so I can be the best dog you ever adopted. Come meet me – I'll wiggle my way into your heart.

Hello! My name is Dylan. I am a five month old Puggle mix. I came to Dogwood with my littermates when we were just tiny guys. It wasn't long before I was picked to go home with a family. I was so excited! Well, things took a turn for the worse there and now I'm back. It was disappointing, but there's no sense feeling sorry for myself. By nature, I'm a happy-go-lucky, fun loving, playful little guy. I'm learning to fetch and walk on a leash like a big boy. I know there's someone really great out there for me. I'll keep learning and growing… and I'll be waiting.

Hi! I'm Bentley the bagel. Not the food kind of bagel; it's just a short way of saying beagle/basset mix. The shelter folks like to make up fun breed names like that to make us feel special. Truth is, I'm just one of the many lovable mutts here with a hard luck story to tell. I was rescued by a very nice lady from a bad situation. She took me home for a few days - I even got to sleep in a real bed with a sweet little girl while I was there - but they just didn't have the room or the time and money to keep me. After getting a bit of love from a wonderful family, I can't wait to experience that again! Hopefully for life this time! I'm still pretty young, about a year old, and I have lots of love and energy to share with friends. Please come by the shelter for a visit. I'd love to go for a little walk with you. I'll be trying to win your heart.
See you soon!

Hi All! We are here to represent several different litters of puppies currently living at Dogwood. We are boxers, poodle/min-pin, puggle mix, and shih tzu/mastiff. How's that for variety? There'll be other puppies available in the next couple of months, but they still need to be with their moms for awhile. It seems there's no end to the number of us puppies looking for homes. Kinda sad, huh? The big dogs in the kennel wished us luck, but we could see they're worried about finding homes themselves. Most people don't look beyond us pups because we're cute and it's hard to resist a baby. All any of us here really wants – like most of you folks - is a little love and companionship. Come meet us please?

Hello friends! I'm called Blue because of my bright blue eyes. I'm a three year old husky mix who used to live happily with my two best friends in a nice house. But my owner got very sick, which changed everything for me. Now I'm here at Dogwood. I've been getting some training from the Canine Coaches there – they say I'm great! I've got mostly A+'s on my report card! That means I walk well on a leash, come when I'm called, and sit when you tell me to. I'm also housebroken and get along well with dogs and cats. I'd sure love to be relaxing by a crackling fire with a nice new family. I'm a little shy when I first meet someone but, if you'll give me just a few minutes, I'll warm right up to you. I'll do everything I can to make you happy you adopted me. I hope you'll come meet me soon!

I've gotten used to all the other dogs that run around here, but it would be awesome to have a nice, quiet home of my own to enjoy. So if you're looking for a wonderful little lap dog, I would be the perfect dog for you. Come and meet me, please?

Hi! I'm Dixie. I was brought to the shelter over a month ago with my brother and sister. Our mom was kind of a free spirit and had a brief fling with the neighbor dog, so it turns out we're an interesting mix......... Cairn Terrier/Yorkie/Blue Heeler. A winning combination! We're smart, loyal, and loving. My brother and sister have gotten great homes already– now it's my turn. So, here I sit, by the door...waiting and hoping. I greet everyone who walks in the door with lots of puppy kisses and tail wags, but so far no takers. I'm pet of the week, so this is my chance to let everyone know I'm available! I really want to be home for Christmas!

Maybe we could have a cool "designer dog" name, like a Corgitz or something! I've been such a good boy here that I get to go out on the town a lot; visited nursing homes, went to Casino Night at the Trophy Room, hung out at the Big Dog store. Now I'm here, speaking for everybody at the shelter who can't speak for themselves. Our message? PLEASE ADOPT, DON'T SHOP! There are so many great dogs and cats waiting and hoping to be in a family. All we need is a chance to shine. Please come to Dogwood and visit with all of us. I'll greet you at the door with tail wags and kisses! See you soon!

Thank goodness there are compassionate people who will come to the aid of a dog in need! Now I'm here at Dogwood, with roommates who have been here a lot longer than I have. I wish all of them the best, of course, but I really hope I don't have to wait too long for my new home. I'm a sweet-natured girl with pretty good manners. I know I can learn new rules quickly when I have someone to teach me. Come to Dogwood and have a look around...at all of us! Take us for a walk, or play in the "meet and greet" pen. You'll see - we are some of the best dogs you'll meet – ANYWHERE.

My name’s Lucky because I was rescued as a pup and adopted into a really nice family. I’ve lived the good life; shared a wonderful home with loving people, went on boat rides and enjoyed the swimming pool with them.  What can I say?  I really was lucky. But my luck changed.  Dad passed away and that's when everything kind of collapsed for me and my brother, Tucker. Mom had to move and couldn’t keep us, so we’re back at the shelter after all those good years. Now, don't get me wrong.....Dogwood is comfortable and good, but it's not the same. I'm nine years old now, and Tucker’s five. We really hope to live out our golden years with a loving family. I still have a lot of love and joy to give. And, there’s no guesswork involved – what you see is what you get. Will you come and meet me (or Tucker)? We love visitors!

I still have a little limp sometimes and I can't always sit quite right, but otherwise I'm good as new! All I need now is a home. I'm only about a year old - really sweet and affectionate. Come and meet me, won't ya? I'm sitting by the door waiting....!

Zuma's my name, but zooming isn't my game – unless you count zooming over to snuggle with you! Everyone says how sweet and loving I am. So, why am I still here? Maybe I'm not beautiful enough for some, but you won't find a more "beautiful" soul. I'm about two years old, but I look a bit older because of the hard life I've had so far. I lost count of how many babies I had before I was rescued, but it was too many. Then I was dumped off to fend for myself. Now I'm at Dogwood, where I'm being treated better than ever! Still, I've always craved the companionship of someone special. I know there's someone out there who will love my gentle nature and my big, dark eyes. You, maybe?

My name is Randjo. I know that's kind of an unusual name—a combination of Randy and Joan. It's a long story and I'll tell you all about it some night when we're curled up on the couch watching TV. I was brought to the shelter by my very nice elderly owner, who could no longer care for me. I really miss her. If you were at Dogwood last week, you might have seen me—but since the Jefferson City Petsmart donated a haircut for me, you might not recognize me. Now I can add good-looking to my Facebook profile! In addition to being so handsome, I'm also housebroken, good with kids, and very polite on a leash and in the car. I'm pretty active—and only six years young—so I'm always up for a good time. Whether I'm a perfect fit for your life or not, come on by for a visit! I never get tired of hearing how cute I am.

A couple things you might wanna know about me... I'm just two years old, housebroken and am good with other dogs and kids.  I think cats are for chasing, but we've been working on that at the shelter.  I'm smart enough to learn to get along!

Okay, I'll admit I do bark a little, but it's really just a "get to know you" kind of bark and then I settle down.  Please don't be put off by it.  I am very smart and I behave well in the house and on a leash.  I also play well with others, once I get to know them. I've made it my job, while here at Dogwood, to greet everyone who comes in the door.  So help me to earn my keep - come by for a visit!  There are a bunch of us in the reception room, but you'll know me when you see me; I'm the beautiful one!  See you soon!

If you think you're not a cat lover, give me a chance to change your mind! My name's Lovey and there's a good reason why. I'm a sweet, loving young kitty who found herself in a dangerous predicament – out on my own among predators, fast cars and other scary things. A nice human man picked me up in Sunrise Beach and drove me all the way to Dogwood. They've done a lot for me here, and now I'm adoptable. I need a place to go so another hungry, scared kitty can take my place here. You'll find , although I'm a bit shy at first, I really do love being held; once I'm in your arms, I just melt. Here's an invitation for you; come to Dogwood Animal Shelter, drag a chair into the cat room and we'll cuddle for as long as you want. I can win a place in your heart if you'll just give me the chance.

Hi! My name's Happy – and that tells you the most important thing you need to know about me! I'm happy now, and I know I'll be even happier when I find my forever home. I thought I'd already found it, but that fell through. You see, the lady that adopted me nine years ago when I was a baby, had babies of her own, and now the kids don't like me. I don't know why not, but that being the case, I'm glad she brought me back here to Dogwood where I'm safe and well cared for. So I'm looking for another home. I'm not a cute little puppy any more, but a nine year old affectionate dog. I'm used to being outside, so I'm not housebroken. I will go potty when I'm walked on a leash though. The Canine Coaches here have given me good grades on my report card because I'm learning to follow commands. The folks here don't believe the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." I'm living proof that with a little TLC, we can all be great dogs! I hope you can make time to come to Dogwood and visit me. It will make my day a lot brighter – and maybe yours too!

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house I go….  That’s where I ended up after all my running. My name is Tori. They haven't worked with me very much yet, but they already said that I'm very good on a leash. I promise I’ll work extra hard to learn all the stuff I’m supposed to learn.  Maybe you'll come by and meet me someday soon?  You'll see what a great dog I am, and how wonderful I can be with a little loving help from someone like you!

YUM!!! I just luv them tasty treats! My name's Harvey - a happy, healthy, little black and white kitten. I was abandoned in the Petsmart parking lot in Jefferson City. I think that's pretty crummy, especially since I'm so little and helpless and the parking lot pavement was melting hot! Thank goodness someone scooped me up and took me inside! Instead of melting on the parking lot, I was happy to melt into their arms! Anyway, long story short, I ended up here at Dogwood. Now I'm three months old, spending my days hanging out in the kitten room with bunches of furry friends. We have so much fun running and playing and climbing and snuggling that I just can't imagine anything better – except maybe a forever home with you! But how will we find each other? Hey - you could come for a visit and spend a little time with all of us! You're sure to leave with a smile on your face and cat hair on your clothes! Bring treats please!

Hola, amigos! I am Rocco, the Chihuahua. A big guy stuck in a little body, if you know what I mean! I found myself out on my own, so I started hanging out at the Taco Bell in Osage Beach. Figured, "Where else would all the chihuahuas hang out?" But, I figured wrong! I was the only dog there. No friends, very little to eat and nowhere safe to sleep. All the big loud cars coming and going got real scary! Boy, was I relieved when a nice lady saw my predicament, picked me up and brought me here to Dogwood. Now I'm surrounded by friends! And – there's plenty to eat. A guy can get a good night's sleep here too, safe and sound in an air conditioned room. Some day (hopefully soon) somebody will take me home with them to be their very own. I LOVE cuddling. I play well with others. I already know to go potty outside instead of inside. I'm young too - about a year and half. Sound like I'm bragging? I've got lots to brag about! But instead of me telling you what a great dog I am, why don't you come and meet me, maybe take me for a walk...I'd really love that!
Hope to see you soon,

Hi.  My name is Murphy.  My brother Mason and I were brought to the shelter a week ago after our owners moved out of their apartment and just left us behind!  Can you believe that?!?!  It was pretty scary being abandoned like that, not knowing what was going to happen to us and who would take care of us!  But, thankfully, we were brought here to the shelter and life is so much better now.  We're not scared at all!

There are lots of friends to play with here and lots of people to give us all the love we want.  I'm only about three months old, but I don't think I'm going to grow up to be a very big dog.  I will need some help with that potty training thing, so I hope you're up for that.  Maybe you could come over for a visit.... all of us really look forward to meeting new people.  See you soon.

Hey!  I’m Durango , a new resident at Dogwood Animal Shelter.
I'm a 6 month old boy and healthy as a horse!
I love everyone here and I love having a good time!

I used to be a lost little puppy –
guess there are an awful lot of us around this neck of the woods.
Like all the others, I wandered around the countryside looking for water,
a little food, companionship, or at least a place to get out of the heat.

I was a lucky pup and wandered to the right place, I guess.
A nice guy started taking care of me and then brought me here to Dogwood.

People have been trying to figure out what kind of dog I am.
I don’t know much about all that; I know I’m the kind of dog who’s looking
for a fun life and someone to share it with!
Come meet me – maybe you’re the one!

If I'm not the dog for you, maybe someone else here will steal your heart.
Anyway, I’m excited to meet you – so hurry in!

Durango

Okay, folks, we're down to the last week of "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month” here at Dogwood Animal Shelter and they've asked me, Sasha, to put everything I have into being the cutest kitten you've ever seen.  So, here goes!

Look at these big eyes and my long, flowing hair.  If I do say so myself, that's a mighty cute pose.  I've been "hanging in there" now for a few weeks and would really love to fall into someone's lap for the rest of my life.  So, if you've decided to up the "cuteness quotient" in your home, I could definitely handle that for you.  But don't delay.....the lower adoption fee of $50 for me and the other kittens is only good through the end of the month.  But, if you think an adult cat would work better with your family, there are lots here to choose from and they're only $30!

Hope to see you soon.
Love, Sasha

Help!!!   I can't tell if this picture’s me or not!  I’m Willow and I'm eight weeks old.  There are some other kittens here that look just like me, but I don't think I'm related. Could be, but just don't know. I've been here at the shelter now for almost a month.  I was found as a tiny baby in a wood pile and brought to the shelter where I was given a nice bath and a warm bottle.  No one was really sure that I’d make it, but I did!  And I’ve grown a LOT since the day I got here! The other kittens and I are just waiting to be adopted into loving homes now. If what I remember of my early life is anything like what it's like out there as an adult, I don't want any part of that!

Since June is "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month", our adoption fee is only $50. Most of the boys have been neutered already, but several of us girls still need to be spayed, so you would have to pay an additional $50 deposit – BUT, you'll get that back when we're fixed. Please don't hold it against us girls that you would have to pay a little more at the beginning.  We can’t help it, and anyway, we’re worth it!

Do you think one of us might be the kitty for you?  Come on by and let us entertain you! If you really don't want a little kitten, cats over a year old are only $30 this month. Either way, you will never find a more loving cat or kitten than you will here.

Hope to see you soon!
Love,
Willow

My name’s Autumn.  I was found several months ago wandering the streets of Camdenton alone and in a delicate condition (i.e. pregnant!), and brought to Dogwood Animal Shelter.  In the safety of the shelter, I gave birth to five kittens, nursed and raised them, and have said good-bye to each as they have been adopted into wonderful homes.

I’m waiting my turn.  I feel safe and well-cared for here, but I really yearn for a family of my own.  I know that June is Adopt-A-Cat month and that my adoption fee is only $30 now.  I hope that helps convince people to come to the shelter and meet me.  I’m just a cat, but to me, $30 doesn’t seem like too high a price for a spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, healthy, loving and loyal friend!

I’ll keep my hopes up and wait here for you to come.

Love,

Autumn

PS:  If you’d rather have a kitten, I’ll understand.  Their adoption fee is a little higher though.

Hello?  Umm, we’re making a desperate appeal to all the cat lovers who might be listening.  Our names are Tory (the white one) and Lulu (the other one).  We’ve suddenly found ourselves at Dogwood Animal Shelter and we’re so confused.

Our loving owner recently became very sick, and then disappeared.  We’re so worried about her, and we really miss her.  Then, last week, some strange people came and took us out of our home, where we’ve lived for as long as we can remember.  And now we’re here.  Wow – life can really turn on a dime!

At least we’ve got each other.  The people here are telling us that they’ll do their best to find us a great new home together. We have no choice but to trust them – and we do.  After all, they’ve let us make a personal appeal to you this week!  They give us everything we need and treat us very nicely.

But, we’re not so young anymore and we’re used to a house and doting owner of our own so we’re hoping to have that again soon.  It may help to know that our lovely owner insisted on impeccable manners in her home; we’re quiet, clean, well-mannered and affectionate.

Please consider giving us a place in your heart and home.

Respectfully yours,
Tory and Lulu

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful, love me because I'm not.  My name is Cassie and that's my motto.  Most folks can't decide if I'm so ugly I'm cute, or I'm just ugly....but not the people here at the shelter.  They are always telling me how beautiful I am.  I'm about two years old and some kind of boxer mix, but no one can figure it out.  I've got this wild hair thing going on and some days I just can't seem to do a thing with it.

My friend and I were tied up to a sign in the State park and abandoned there.  Thank goodness, some nice people came along and found us and brought us here to the shelter.  It scares me to think what could have happened to us!  My friend has already been adopted, but because I'm a little shy, I'm still here.  I keep hoping that special person comes along who will be very patient with me, ‘cause once I warm up to you, you will have a friend for life!

So, if you're the kind of person who thinks that looks aren't everything and that behind every face (like mine) is a beautiful soul, please come by and visit with me.  I'm very good on a leash and always ready for a nice walk.

Love,
Cassie

Hi folks. It's me again, Scout. I know I've been the Pet of the Week before, but I wanted to share my graduation picture with you. One of the wonderful people at the shelter saw the potential in me and thought that I would be a good candidate for obedience school here. Boy, was she right! I amazed everyone with what a good boy I can be with a little love and patience. I even got a diploma and everything! This class really helped me get over some of my shyness. I'm much more comfortable meeting new folks now! I promise if you will give me a chance, I will try my very hardest to be the best dog ever. So if you've come to the shelter before and didn't get a chance to visit with me because I hid from you, please come try again. I really am trying very hard and, if you're willing to try too, we could be a great team! Love, Scout
It's that time of year again......itty, bitty, kitty season. We are just three of the many kittens that have been born since the first of the year. Some of the lucky ones were born at the shelter, but we were not so lucky and were born out in the wild. Our mom did a good job of caring for us and keeping us safe until someone could catch us and bring us here. At first, we were a little scared, but now that we know how loving everyone is here, we're having a blast! There is so much to do....climb the towers, chase little furry "mice" toys, chase each other. It's all such fun! Know what would be more fun??? Having a forever family to do these things with. So if you're in the market for some home entertainment, you should give one or more of us a try. We're sure to please.

Hi everyone....my name is Brandy and I'm trying very hard to find a new home. You see, I was left out to run the streets and lost my way. Thankfully, someone saw me, felt sorry for me, and swooped in to pick me up. Before I knew it, I was safe and sound at the shelter, getting food and water and a nice, snuggly blankie of my very own. Now I'm hoping and praying for my forever person to walk through the doors. I'm still a little uncertain of how all this works, so I don't always run to the door when someone comes (like the guys who have been here longer) but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it! Honestly, the people here at the shelter are very kind and loving and I'm really lucky to have them, but I really would love a family to call my own. So I'm begging you, come on by and take one of us for a test run. I promise you won't leave here without having a warm, fuzzy feeling.....and maybe an actual warm, fuzzy critter that will make your life complete.
Love,
Brandy

We're a couple of cute puppies that were born here at Dogwood during the last few months. There have been LOTS of us! Our moms were lucky enough to end up here while they were pregnant with us, so we've all been loved and cared for from the start. We're having lots of fun playing and wrestling with each other here, but we've all heard happy stories about dogs and cats going home with families to live, so we're really hoping that happens for us too! We're not allowed to go out on our own looking for homes, so could you please come here to meet us? Stay and play awhile - see if maybe you fall in love with us? We're awful sweet –most of the time!

Hope to see you this week!

It's springtime at Dogwood Animal Shelter and that means puppies (and kitties)! I'm just one of the many puppies that have been born here at the shelter in the last few months. Our moms were lucky enough to end up here, where it's safe and clean. We've all overheard the horror stories that are told around here about being born out in the wild. That sounds really scary! But thanks to Dogwood Animal Shelter and everyone who supports them, we are all safe and sound and healthy - ready to go to our forever homes! We're having lots of fun playing and wrestling with each other, but we'd kinda like to find out how it feels to have a place to call our own. So if you're in the market for some love and kisses of the puppy kind, come by and see us. We've got lots of love to give!

Happy Birthday to me, happy birthday to me!  Happy birthday to Hailey, happy birthday to me!  Having another birthday here at the shelter is kinda bittersweet.  I love having a birthday - all the attention and goodies! But it’s also a reminder that one more year has passed and I still don’t have a home of my own.  I’ve been here longer than anyone else; came when I was 2 months and I’ll be 8 years old April 1st !  I don't know why nobody has picked me. Ask anyone....they'll tell you what a good girl I am.  I know all kinds of commands...the Canine Coaches have taught me well.   There are only a few days left for the March half price adoption special. I really thought this might be my big chance, but so far it's always been someone else.  I'm not giving up hope though... I know there's someone out there looking for a big lovable dog just like me. Could you come by the shelter soon?  Maybe take me for a walk or just give me a pat on the head for my birthday.  I'll take whatever love you give.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Hailey

Hi! My name is Natasha. I came to Dogwood with my four babies and most of them have been adopted. Now it's my turn. I'm a small blonde lab mix with big soft brown eyes. I'm young and have lived most of my life outside, but I kind of prefer being inside on the couch. I mind really well and will do anything to please you. I'm housebroken and good with other dogs and kids....and even cats! I'm pretty mellow most of the time, but do love a good run every now and then. I know... I sound like the perfect dog, don't I? That's why I don't understand why I'm still here. Please come by the shelter and ask for me, maybe take me for a walk. Trust me, you won't regret it.

Hi folks! My name is Crush and I'm smiling because, for the rest of the month, my adoption fee is half price and I just KNOW that means I'll be going to my forever home really soon! When I was just a little guy, someone dumped me and my littermates at the shelter after hours, and that was pretty scary! But the people at the shelter gave us lots of love and attention and things are much better now. I've been here a year and a half, and I'm so ready to go home with a real family and have my own bed and toys and kids and ALL that good stuff! I'll behave myself - my Canine Coaches say I'm one of the best dogs ever! PLEEEEZE come by for a visit! You'll see what a great dog I am!

Hello friends! My name is Nadia and I'm on the hunt for a new home. (All I've found out here so far is a bunny – fun, but not what I really need!) I've been waiting here at Dogwood for a couple of years now. Before that, I'd been out on my own for quite awhile, having babies and trying hard to care for them all by myself. That can really be scary! Now I've been spayed, so I won't ever have to worry about that again, thank goodness! I have a clean, warm kennel here, lots of food to eat, and get to hang out with my friends (both four legged and two legged). Still, I'd REALLY love a family to call my own. Since I've been here, I've seen lots of my friends come and go. I'm about four years old now, and I wonder when it's going to be my turn. Everyone who takes me for a walk says I'm a really good girl. All I'm asking is that you give me a chance to prove what a wonderful friend I can be. During March, my adoption fee is reduced - $37.50! A good deal for you and for me! Hope to see you soon,
Love, Nadia

Hello! My name is Donzi and I'm a living, breathing example of why you should spay and neuter your pets. I am one of the last of many litters that were either born here or brought to the shelter last spring and summer. I sure don't understand why I'm still here since I'm such a handsome fella. I've got TONS of personality, playful as can be, love to be with you all the time, and did I mention good looking?!? I'm just waiting to find that special someone who will appreciate all I have to give. I promise I will be the perfect four legged companion if you will just give me a try. I wouldn't mind having a furry friend to hang with since I get along with everyone no matter how furry they are! So PLEASE come by the shelter and spend a little time with me and all my friends. I can guarantee that you will feel loved when you leave and so will we.
Love,
Donzi

Hi Folks! I'm Action Jackson and I'm looking for someone to love! I was brought to Dogwood by an animal control officer when I was just a little guy. Don't remember what I did to deserve being left out on my own, but that's the way the officer found me. I'm sure glad he brought me to Dogwood! I've made lots of friends here, gotten lots of treats and toys and everything I need I guess – except a human of my very own. I dream of taking walks together, playing and romping together, listening to the comforting voice of my human and knowing that we can always count on each other…I wish really really hard every day but, so far, no luck. I have a zest for life that I NEED to share with somebody!!! In honor of St. Valentine's Day, during February, the adoption price for all of us dogs in the kennel is 50% off! Guess the folks here want to make it even easier for you all to experience the joys of the human-dog bond. We're all vaccinated, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and ready to go! Come meet me and some of my buddies - we sure do look forward to visitors walking us, running with us in the big play yard, giving us yummy snacks and treating us like we're really special. So, I'm gonna do some extra hard wishing this month – somebody, please come choose me for your friend!
Love,
Jackson
It's PUPPY TIME at Dogwood Animal Shelter. Hi folks. We're just a few of the puppies available for adoption right now at the shelter. We're a pretty mixed bunch. Some of us were born here, for which we are very grateful. We've heard that some of our new friends were found in a box on the side of the road, some were pulled out from underneath a house and some were just wandering the streets. But it's all good now....we've got a nice warm place to sleep, plenty of food for our little bellies and lots of toys to play with. Oh, did I mention all the love and attention we get? It's amazing what a little time in someone's loving arms can do for your soul. We're healthy, happy and playful and just waiting for someone to come in and fall in love with us (which won't be hard cuz we're so darned cute)! At least that's what we're told. So come on down and see for yourself. We dare you to try and resist the urge to pick one of us up and cuddle for a little bit. See you soon!

Hi everyone! My name is Phideaux. That's a really la-di-da way of saying Fido. Robin, from the kennel, thought it would be a really good name for me...like maybe I needed a little pick-me-up to make me feel better after being dumped in the Save a Lot parking lot. I was just a little, bitty guy - only about eight weeks old when I was left to fend for myself. Thankfully, a kind soul picked me up and took me to the shelter where I was greeted with open arms - lots and lots of them! I wasn't there very long when someone came along and adopted me. I thought it would be my forever home, but things didn't work out with their landlord so here I am back at the shelter. Now I'm still cute as a button, but I'm four and a half months old now and a little bigger than the eight week old puppy that went out of here before.

So maybe I could interest you in coming by and visiting me, maybe take me for a walk or play in the fenced area. I love to play fetch and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. I'm the boxer mix in the front puppy room so I see everyone who walks in the front door and I'll be waiting and watching just for you. So hope to see you real soon.
Love, Phideaux

Greetings! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I'm Mickey. I first arrived at the shelter back in 2009 around Christmas time. I've been adopted before, and was in that home for a year, (IT WAS GREAT!) but when my family had to move, they brought me back here. I've been back at Dogwood for a year now, and even though I'm loved and taken care of here, I'd really like a real home again. I'm a really good dog, housebroken and all! And I LOVE to play (I had a boy to play with in my previous home). I'm pretty althletic –I can scale the fence at the shelter patio in one single bound, kinda like Superman! – so I'll need a really high fence at my new home. If you're an active person that would love having an adoring companion to run and play with, then I'M YOUR DOG! Come on by the shelter anytime and let's have a nice visit. I'm sure I could win you over.
Love, Mickey

Hi everyone, my name is Road Runner as in "running the roads" which was what I was doing when I got brought to the shelter almost 5 years ago. I've got to tell you, I've seen a lot of changes over the years.....lots of dogs coming and going .... and I'm still here. I was a cute pup when all this started out, but now I'm a handsome young man. I'm not the oldest guy at the place, but I'd sure like to find my forever home before I get that way. I don't want to brag, but I've got alot going for me. I'm handsome (did I mention that already?), and I do have some manners once you get me out of my kennel. The Canine Coaches have worked with me alot and I've been out on the town with some of the volunteers, so I know how it feels to roll around in the grass and would sure love to feel that again. I also love the water so a home on the lake would be perfect. I have lots of doggie friends here, so a home with other dogs would be great! Well, I guess that's about it for me for now. I would like to invite all of you down for a visit and some fun in our new fenced in play area. Hope to see you soon.
Love, Road Runner

Meet the Puppies

Eeny, meeny, miney, moe......which one of these puppies wants to go? You can take your pick of any of the adorable puppies at Dogwood Animal Shelter. We all lined up for this mug shot, but we're sure you can tell from looking at us that we are all very good boys and girls and really don't deserve to be in "jail". The only reason we're in here is because our moms weren't spayed and we were brought into this world and then abandoned. Not a great start for a little one, but things have looked up for us since we came to the shelter. We get lots of love and toys and play time with each other. Not to mention lots of food and treats. We've had all our vaccinations and some of the boys have already been fixed (didn't know they were broken)and we're microchipped so we'll never be lost again. Won't you pleeeeeeze come down and "spring" one of us....we'll be your new best friend forever...promise.
Love and puppy kisses from all of us.

"Hey, are you our long lost sister? We're just one big, happy family." (Pebbles -the dog, meets some of her "brothers" at Dogwood Animal Shelter, Jordan and Monty the cats, in the cat room.) Even though they're not technically brothers and sister, they all get along here at the shelter. Just like they would get along with everyone in your family. Monty and Jordan have been here since they were little kittens, over two years ago. And since this is the last week for Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, their adoption fee is only $50 or your could take them both for $80. Pebbles is only a puppy, but she sure would like to be in a forever home soon. Her adoption fee is $75 plus $50 spay deposit that will be refunded when she is spayed in a couple of weeks. They are waiting, just like lots of other cats and dogs, and puppies and kittens, for someone just like you to welcome them into your family.

Hi Babe....oh, you're talking to me! That's MY name. I'm one of the Big Black Dogs here at Dogwood. I have been here since I was a little girl. Not that I'm that old now.. I just turned a year old in March , so really I'm still a puppy at heart. And boy do I have heart! I'm a really sweet girl, I just need someone to take me home and bring out all my finer qualities. I live next door to my sister, Chelsea, but I think it's time one of us moved out and found our own place. And I'm hoping that since my adoption fee for the month of April is only $50, that that someone is ME. I would totally understand if someone wanted my sister or even one of the other big dogs here at the shelter.....all I'm asking is that you give us a chance to show you what great companions we can be. Life is always better when it's shared with a four legged friend! Hope to see you soon.

What's up, doc? Oh wait, that's me! Doc, from Dogwood. I'm almost 5 years old and have been here since I was a little puppy. I came in with six brothers and sisters. They named us all after the Seven Dwarfs and I guess I got the name Doc cuz I'm really smart. I'm also a little shy, but I'm starting to come out of my shell. The wonderful people that come in and volunteer with the Canine Coaches say I'm doing better with all my commands and walking on a leash. So, as you can see, I've got a lot going for me. I'm tall, dark and handsome....and I'm also cheap! No, not how you're thinking...I'm one of the Big Black Dogs that is available for $50 for the month of April. Any black dog that has been here for over 30 days is only $50 to adopt...that includes all my vaccinations, I'm neutered and microchipped...the total package! So I hope to see you soon and, if you and I are not the perfect fit, maybe one of my friends will be. We're all just looking for love!

Hi folks! My name is Tuff. I don't know why I was given the name Tuff, cuz I'm really just a lovebug. I was brought to the shelter waaaaay back in 2006 cuz my people just didn't have time for me. I got adopted shortly after that, but recently my people got lost and I couldn't find them. I eventually found my way back to Dogwood Animal Shelter where they welcomed me with open arms and hearts. I'm a little older than a lot of the dogs here (about nine years old) so I don't get too many looks, but I'm really a great guy. I'm housebroken and I get along with dogs and cats. I've been to an adoption event and got along with all the people who came to see me...there were other dogs there, but I think everyone came to see ME! I also love Dairy Queen hamburgers and Blizzards. That was a new treat for me but one that I'd sure like to try again. So if you're interested in a couch potato with legs that will love to snuggle with you, I'm your man. Please come by and take me for a walk. I do really well on a leash and would love to take a walk with you. Hope to see you soon.

Hi…Cooper “The Conehead” here.  I am really embarrassed to have my picture in the paper with “the cone of shame” around my head, but I’m afraid I’m stuck with this for the next few weeks.  Ya see, I was hit by a car on February 5th and left on the side of Highway 54 with a badly broken leg.   I am very grateful for the nice young man who stopped and picked me up and brought me to the shelter!  I could have frozen to death out there!  They took me to a really kind man they called Dr. Tom and he fixed me right up, but I know I’m going to have a looooong recovery.  I heard the nice folks at the shelter talking about how much all my medical care was going to cost, but they also said that they would somehow find a way.  They are all just so thankful that I’m going to be OK and they have faith that the bills will all be paid…WOW!  I understand that I won’t be available for adoption right away, but I hope and pray that someone will come in and visit me and decide that I’m the perfect dog for them!  Right now I’m just grateful I’ve got a warm place to sleep, food in my belly and I don’t hurt anymore! THANK YOU…THANK YOU…THANK YOU!

I'd like to say hello to all my admirers....maybe there aren't a lot of you but I'm hoping that, after you see my pictures and hear my story, there will be more. My name is Cora. I'm one of the two beagles that will greet you at the door when you come to visit the shelter. I got lost from my original owner a while back and was just wandering the streets. Some big guys in a big truck picked me up but the shelter was full and I had nowhere to go. Thankfully, someone volunteered to take me into their home until my skin cleared up (I was a bit of a mess back then, but I look lots better now). So here it is, six months later and, cute as I am, I'm still here. It may be because of my age - I'm somewhere around seven or eight years old, I've lost track but I can still keep up with the young pups around here! You should come on by and take a look at me or one of the other dogs (or cats) here at the shelter. We've got lots going for us besides our good looks. We have TONS of love to give!
Hope to see you soon!

HO! HO! HOME for the holidays! Hi folks, my name is Bubba. It's Christmas at Dogwood Animal Shelter. I'm not exactly sure what all that entails, but I've heard something about being "naughty or nice" and some big, jolly guy watching every move you make. Just so you know, I've been a really good boy this year. I've been playing well with others, getting used to sharing my toys and food, and learning to walk on a leash (without chewing on the leash itself!). I'm about a year old, neutered, up-to-date on all my shots, microchipped and cute as a button! It just doesn't get any better than that. I was brought here to Dogwood a month or so ago because I got lost and couldn't find my way home. So now this is home, until that special someone comes along to take me home for the holidays. I'd love a home with room to run and maybe some kids to run around with. So stop on by and maybe take me for a little walk. Hope to see you soon.

Happy Howlidays from Dogwood Animal Shelter! My name is Autumn and I keep hearing that Christmas is "just around the corner". Well, I've looked around every corner here at the shelter and cannot figure out what they're talking about! I'm not sure what I'm looking for because I've never heard of Christmas. In fact, I've never heard of any holidays. Before coming to the shelter with all my buddies, I was just left outside to kind of fend for myself. There were 10 of us that were all brought in at the same time and except for Lila (who was pregnant) and Reina (who was injured), I'm the last one to find a forever home. I just don't understand it...I'm a really sweet girl, about 8 months old, a little timid, but once I get to know you, I'll do just fine. I'm just looking for the right family, one who will be very understanding and patient with me. I have a lot of love to give and I don't ask much in return...just a nice, cozy place to lay my head, food, water, and toys....lots and lots of toys. OMG! I LOVE the kind with the squeakers in them! Anyway, if I sound like the kind of dog you might want to get to know a little better, come on down to the shelter. You may have to coax me out from under the desk, but really, I would love to take a walk with you. I'll just sit by the door and wait for you ...okay?

I'm one of the four dogs that were abandoned at Dogwood's entrance gate a month or so ago. You probably heard about us – there was a reward offered for information about where we came from because we were in such bad shape. Sure wish we could talk! It was a great relief to get into Dogwood! We got soothing baths and medicine to help the crazy itching, as much food as we wanted, and our own warm room with soft bedding. We started feeling better pretty fast. After much TLC, we're starting to look almost as good as we feel! Our skin has cleared up (somewhat), our hair is coming back (slowly), and we're putting on weight (LOVIN' THE FOOD!). Two of us, the boys, are ready to be adopted right now! In a loving home atmosphere, they'll continue to get better looking every day! We two girls have to be spayed before going home – probably next week! We're really excited to think we may be playing and snuggling with our very own humans soon! Can you look past the "bad hair" recovery time and see the love we have to share with you?
Come visit us soon!

My name is Reina and I have an extra big THANK YOU to all of Dogwood's supporters! You see, I'd been abandoned at a trailer with about a dozen of my friends. After the trailer burned down, some good neighbors came to save us. They got my friends all settled in their car but didn't see me until they were about to drive off because I was by the side of the road, hurt bad and unable to move. Thank God they saw me before they left! As soon as we got to Dogwood, life started getting better! We got so much love and food, and all of our hurts and bruises started healing. Turned out, I had a broken pelvis and a broken leg, so I had surgery to fix my leg. My pelvis is healing on it's own with lots of bed rest. I'm almost as good as new! My cast is off and I'm allowed to play with my friends now! I can't be adopted until I'm spayed, but that's going to happen soon. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of my life, with my own furever family to love! I hate to think where I'd be if it weren't for all you wonderful supporters of Dogwood! I can't get out and come to you, but you're sure welcome to come visit me here – I have lots of thank you kisses to give! Visitors here at Dogwood always walk away smiling!
Thanks again for caring!

So there I was, out on the road fending for myself, when a nice lady stopped, picked me up and brought me to Dogwood Animal Shelter. I'm pretty old and it was kinda cold out there, so I was sure glad to get in where it's warm and comfy and the nice folks feed me all I can eat. They love cuddling me too! They're calling me Moses – "He's as old as Moses!" I heard them say! My teeth were giving me problems so the nice doc tried to clean them. A lot of them fell out, so, as you can see from my picture, I now have a little trouble holding my licker! But I'll tell you what; I can chow down with the best of them (as long as it's soft food). And I feel better than I have in years! Now what I'm looking for is a nice quiet home with someone who wants a couch buddy (I'm really good at that). I like to go for walks, but prefer to keep them short, like my legs. I'm a little, bitty guy... 5.2 lbs. If all this is sounding too irresistible, you should get yourself right down to the shelter for a visit. And remember – November is "Adopt A Senior Pet Month – with a special $50 adoption fee for us old-timers! If you're thinking of bringing a new pal home for the holidays, now might be the time.
Hope to see you soon,
Moses

Hello everyone. I'll bet you're wondering who this handsome, distinguished looking gentleman is. Well, let me introduce myself. My name is Teddy and I'm 7 years old. I was brought in with my mom and four brothers and sisters a really long time ago and have spent most of my life at the shelter. I was in a home for a couple of years, but I get kind of nervous around small kids so they brought me back. I'm fine with older kids, dogs, cats... just about anything but little kids. (I hate to admit it, but they scare me!) I would really love to be back in a home with a nice yard because I am housetrained and no matter how hard the people at the shelter try (and believe me they do try hard!), I just don't get out enough. And a nice soft bed for my old bones would be wonderful, too. So if I sound like just the kind of dog you might be looking for, come on down to the shelter this month. November is "Adopt a Senior Pet" month so my adoption fee is only $50. For everything you get with me, I can tell you that's quite a bargain! Hope to see you soon, Love,
Teddy

Hello, hello, hello, hello. We are affectionately known around here as "the hounds". We're told we're Treeing Walker Coonhounds, but I don't think we ever even seen a coon, much less walked up a tree to get one! But we do love love love to run and play. We're about 3 and a half months old now and have been at the shelter for a month. A kind lady found us in a box and brought us here to be cared for. We'd love a home with a nice big fenced yard for us to play in. We realize that we probably won't find a home that will take all of us, but what could be more fun that a barrel full of puppies!?! So come on by the shelter and take one or all of us for a walk...we're learning to walk on a leash so it will be good practice for us. And for the rest of the month of October, since it's "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month, our adoption fee is only $50 for the 2 boys since we've been fixed and the 2 girls are still broken so you would have to pay an additional $50 refundable deposit for their spay. We're all microchipped and are up to date on vaccinations.
Hope to see you soon,
Clark , Kent , Lois, and Layne

PS: October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month so our adoption fee is only $50. Just think, a wonderful dog (or two), unconditional love, and a great price.....what could be better?!?!

Hello everyone....I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Parker. I guess here at the shelter I would be known as a senior citizen. I'm almost 9 years old - and that's in people years! My story isn't as sad as some of the others I've heard since I've been here, but it's sad to me. My sister (Marley) and I were adopted out together as little puppies 8 years ago. We went to live with our new person on a big farm where we had lots of room to run and play. Unfortunately, he had to move into town about a year ago and did not have a place for us to go so we were brought back here. I really miss having the freedom to go where I want and enjoy the feel of grass under my feet, I mean paws. So if anyone out there is looking for a really good dog to just hang out and look after things for you, please consider me or my sister...we've got lots of experience. Plus we would be extremely grateful and shower you with lots of hugs and kisses.

PS: October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month so our adoption fee is only $50. Just think, a wonderful dog (or two), unconditional love, and a great price.....what could be better?!?!

Hi folks! I'm here to announce ADOPT-A-DOG MONTH at Dogwood Animal Shelter!

Maybe you remember me – Nestle? (named for chocolate.....chocolate lab, get it?) I was the poster child for Dogwood Animal Shelter's first annual Fur-Ball. I was not at my best at that time - was still recovering from surgery on my leg. See, some kind folks found me after I had been hit by a car and brought me to the shelter. So the money from the Fur-Ball helped pay for the surgery that repaired my leg! I'm all better now – I get to play on the patio with all my new friends at the shelter. I sure enjoy that! I still limp a little, and that might never change. Don't let that stop you though because it sure doesn't stop me! I'm a friendly, happy guy who's waiting for my new family! And, during October, any of us who have been waiting for 30 days or more will only cost $50 to adopt! At least come for a visit - I sure do love the company! Hope to see you soon.
Love, Nestle

Meet Sally

HI – I'm Sally and I'm kind of a big deal here at Dogwood. I've been here almost 4 years; I've got some seniority so I've chosen my own job. I'm in charge of security in the gift shop. In this picture, you can see I'm guarding the socks! I take my job pretty seriously. When I'm not busy protecting the merchandise though, I'm a very sweet girl and I LOVE LOVE LOVE to be petted! The "anniversary" of my coming here is September 24th - I sure hope to find my forever home before then! I'm no trouble at all to have around and I'll sure be happy to spend as much quality snuggle time with you as you want! I've heard that Dogwood's offering an extra low adoption price on all of us cats and kittens during September – just $50 - so I'm hoping this will be my lucky month. I hope to meet you soon!

Meet Our Spotted Kittens

Think you're seeing spots?! This bunch of black and white spotted kittens at Dogwood Animal Shelter is always up for a good time! We like to tease the folks here - darting all over the place until .....you guessed it.... all they see are spots! Life here is great compared to life before we came here, but really – we'd love a little space of our own. Our roommates are fun, but it's pretty crowded in the kitten room here. When a visitor comes, we all get really excited and act like a bunch of clowns & acrobats, trying to get our fair share of attention and petting! We'd just like a nice person of our own for a change. Guess everyone in here would say the same. We're five months old, beautiful, playful, microchipped, and fixed, (which is really cool, because who wants a broken cat?) And for the month of September our adoption fee is only $50. Adopt two of us and the second one is only $25! Where else can you go to get such fun entertainment (and stylish lap warmers) for such a reasonable price? We have our hopes up and will look forward to seeing you in our kitten room. You'll have a blast!
Love, Jasper, Donzi, Tawney & Baxter

Meet Kelly and Her Puppies

SSHHH.....the babies are finally quiet. And I'm exhausted! All you moms out there surely understand how tiring a little one can be. Multiply that by 8!!!

Oh, how I wish my old owners had gotten me spayed--then I wouldn't be in this predicament.

My name is Kelly and I was brought to Dogwood Animal Shelter because I was out running the streets and no one wanted me. When I got to the shelter and they checked me out, much to my dismay (and theirs), they discovered I was pregnant.

So here I am, only about a year and a half old, and taking care of eight babies! The folks at the shelter are helping as much as they can, and I don't even want to think how hard it would have been to take care of them on my own. Here, at Dogwood, I have a warm dry bed, food in my belly and - although my babies may have been unwanted - at least now they're safe from harm.

I am pleading to ALL pet owners out there......SPAY and NEUTER,,,,PLEASE! I've joined the shelter folks in their dreams about a time when there is no such thing as an unwanted puppy!
Love, Kelly

Meet Blake

Hello everyone! No, this isn't a "before" picture for a weight loss program. It's me, Blake, in all my glory! I've kind of let myself go, physically, but I like to consider myself "full figured" or "fluffy". I'm big, handsome as can be, sweet and gentle with all creatures, housebroken and very obedient. My younger "brother" Charlie and I were brought to the shelter recently and had to be separated here 'cuz he's a lot smaller than me. I miss him ALOT and am struggling with some depression now. Because of my size, I don't fit well in a kennel so I have to stay in a special room and get fed a special diet food. Can you believe that!?! I do love the extra attention, but I would really like to be just a normal dog doing normal dog things. Of course, my long term goal is to find that special someone who has room in their heart and home for a calm couch potato dog. For now though, I'm asking you folks to please help me through my depression and my weight problem by coming to Dogwood and taking me for a walk. Ask for me, Blake. Just a 15 minute walk with you would help lift my spirits! I really need you…please.

Meet Charlie

Hi everyone....my name is Charlie. I'm kinda new here at the shelter so I'm still sort of figuring things out. It was scary at first because I've always been in a home with my big brother Blake and now we're separated, with Blake in the kennel and me in the front. But I have lots of new friends here, both cats and dogs, and the people are really nice! They even gave me a really cool haircut (I was a little shaggy before). But it would be great to be back in a home of my own, even better if Blake could come, too, but I know that would be asking a lot because he's a big dog. I'm only three years old, housetrained, good with kids and really, really cute....the total package! What more could anyone ask for?!?! So come by the shelter for a visit...maybe you could take me and Blake for a walk together...I'd really like that and I know he would, too.

Hope to see you soon,
Love, Charlie

Meet Trudy

Hello Everyone. My name is Trudy. I'm one of the "seniors" here at Dogwood Animal Shelter. Not that I've been here very long, but I am 6 and a half years old. I've seen a lot of life, let me tell you. I was picked up as a stray wandering the streets of Osage Beach and brought to the shelter. But I've not always been a stray....I remember living with someone in a nice cozy home, still remember the rules about not pottying in the house or chewing up stuff that doesn't belong to me. But somehow I ended up on the streets (through no fault of my own - I really am a very good girl). I'm grateful to the folks at the shelter for helping me search for another home, hopefully my forever home because I'm ready to settle down for good. Really, I'm not much trouble at all. In fact, I'll be perfectly happy to curl up and rest in your lap most of the time. So if you're looking to share your life with someone who's mature and low maintenance, not to mention really cute, I just may be the girl for you. Come by for a visit and maybe a little walk, if it's not too hot. I'll be here waiting.
Love, Trudy

Meet Lucky

Hello everyone.... My name is Lucky.  You might not think so when you hear my story, but I truly am LUCKY.  My owner of many, many years passed away and I had nowhere to go so I got brought to the shelter.  I've got a few strikes against me....I'm 15 or 16 years old (I can't EVEN add that high in dog years!).  I've got a few health problems (I'll tell you about them when we meet....they're kinda personal)...and I don't get around as well as I used to.

On the flip side, I do have my winning smile, which I bring out on special occasions, and lots of love to give still.
But things are starting to look up... I'm here at Dogwood Animal Shelter getting the best care and attention from these nice people. They make sure I get plenty of food and walks since I am housebroken and don't like to make mistakes. And I get to stay inside on these  hot days, which I really appreciate (us old dogs don't tolerate the heat very well).

So come on down and visit with me... I love to make new friends.  Maybe, just maybe, one of my new friends will open their heart and their home to an elderly, distinguished gal like me.
Hope to see you soon,
Love, Lucky

Meet Freedom

Pssst...Hi it's me...Freedom. And that's just what I'm hoping for... not that things here at the shelter aren't great, it's just that I would like a little more freedom. Maybe go outside once in a while to smell the flowers (but I would have to come back in so I can share the couch with you). It sure is crowded here in the Kitten Room as you can see, and while I love my friends and family, I cannot think of anything better than to have a family to call my very own. So if you're looking to add a wonderful, furry, cuddly creature to your family, you might come by the shelter and check us out. There are lots to choose from, all sizes and colors just waiting for you to fall in love with. And since our adoption fee is only $50 for the rest of the month of June, you could take two for only $80! I would be willing to share my new family with whoever you pick from my old family. So stop by the Kitten Room at Dogwood Animal Shelter, but be prepared to fall in love at first sight...we're irresistible. Betcha can't take just one!
Love,
Freedom

Meet Dartanian

Hello friends....my name is Dartanian (Dart for short). This is a picture of me hanging with my best bud, Comet. I'm the handsome one on the left. I'm a little sad these days cuz Comet just got adopted this week. Good for him! I guess I'm just wondering when it will be my turn to go to a home. I haven't been here at the shelter all that long, and the guys and gals here are as nice as they can be, but I've experienced what it's like to live in a house with a family that loves you and I would like to have it again. And to make your decision even easier, June is "ADOPT A SHELTER CAT" month so I could be warming your lap tonight for the low, low cost of $50! I am current on all vaccination, neutered, microchipped and ready for just about anything. They even let me be an office kitty since I'm so friendly. I get along with everyone (even dogs!) so there's nothing standing in the way of me becoming the newest member of your family. Come by and check me out...I think you'll like what you see!
Love, Dartanian

Meet Buzz

Hi everyone...it's me Buzz. You probably don't recognize me from my earlier pic...I'm all grown up. OK, so I'm really still just a pup, a blue heeler mix. But the thing is, I got too big to stay up front with the other (as in smaller) pups so I got moved to the kennel with the big dogs...older, more experienced, and did I mention BIG? Now I may not be the smallest dog out here (like Dolly), but I AM the youngest and let me tell you it's a little scary. And all because I grew...and grew, something that just can't be helped. But I'm only five and a half months old so I really do think it's time for me to find a home. All my brothers and sisters have been adopted....WHY NOT ME? I'm a really good guy.. smart, trainable, loyal, and, judging from my picture, drop dead gorgeous! So whenever you're in the neighborhood, stop by and tell the great folks at the shelter that you "want to see Buzz and take him for a walk"....right out the door and into your heart! I'll be waiting....
Love, Buzz

Meet Cooper

Hi folks.....my name is Cooper. You probably don't recognize me without the "cone of shame". Well, I'm happy to tell you that I have recovered completely from the injuries I suffered last winter. Thanks to all the folks at the shelter and Dr. Tom for the wonderful care I've been given. I've been moved from the clinic to the kennel and have made TONS of new friends. I get to go out on the patio and hang with them and enjoy this wonderful weather. Life sure is good.....the only thing that would make it better would be a forever home to share with someone. I'm an out-doorsy kind of guy and love to go for long walks on the beach, moonlit strolls.....wait, that's my doggiematch.com profile. But all kidding aside, I am a very lovable guy that just needs a home to call my own. I've heard from some of my kennel-mates that they have been here for a long time and I sure don't want that to happen to me. Come by and see me sometime....I may be just what you're looking for!
Love,
Cooper

Meet Venus & Family

Hello everyone! It's my very first Mother's Day! My name is Venus and, if I look a little tired, it's because I'm a new mom... and all you moms out there know how tiring that can be! On top of having four kids, I had to have a C-section due to complications during delivery. You'd never know it from the picture, but these little guys are just one day old. I am just one of the new moms here at the shelter. All of us in the maternity ward came in pregnant because someone didn't take the time to have us spayed. I am so grateful that I have a nice, clean, dry place to sleep with my babies and plenty of food to eat. There are so many others like me that do not have all the niceties of home that I have. I can only imagine what their lives are like, having to scrounge for food AND take care of their babies. Thank goodness I don't have to worry about anything other than recovering from my surgery and taking care of the kids. I want to give a big THANKS to everyone at the shelter for all the love and kindness that each and every one of the animals here gets. And for going the extra mile with me when I needed it (thanks Dr. Jay). AND a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donates to the shelter and thrift store for making all this possible. Remember .....SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS! Thanks! Love, Venus

Meet Vivi

Hello to all my friends....it's me, Vivi, reporting live from Dogwood Animal Shelter.  The big news here at the shelter is that April is Big Black Dog Awareness Month.  That means any big black dog that has been here for more than 30 days (like me!) is just $50 to adopt.  The adoption fee includes all my vaccinations, I'm already spayed, and microchipped.  I was found about two years ago running around behind HyVee with my friend Violet.  Since then, I have been hanging out here with my friends, going to school (the canine coaches have worked with me alot and it shows), and waiting for just the right person to come along that would appreciate a full figured gal like me.  I do have one requirement for the people who choose to share their home with me.....you MUST be willing to give lots of tummy rubs! I just LOVE dem tummy rubs!  So come by the shelter and let me show you my stuff.  Hope to see you.
Love, Vivi

Meet Frank

Hi everyone…my name is Frank….as in "FRANKly I'm ready to get out of here!". I have been here at the shelter since I was a little kitten, waaaaaay back in October of 2008. I was abandoned at the shelter in a box with my sister. How's that for a sad story. But unfortunately, that happens more often than you think. But on to a happier subject…ME! As you can tell from the picture, I am a very relaxed, laid back kind of guy. I have been promoted to "Office Kitty" because of my winning personality. The job is great…all I have to do is lay around all day, chase and play with the dogs, and look cute. For that I'm paid with lots of love and attention, kibble, a warm bed and all the toys I want! What a life! The only thing that could be better would be a forever home where I could perform all my "duties" just for YOU! Hope to see you soon.

Meet Dallas

You'll find me over yonder at Dogwood Animal Shelter, jes' waitin' fer a nice home to nestle myself in! I'm a patient dude, so I'm not frettin'...yet. But I have been here awhile. In fact, this picture of me is from when I was still a kid - about 8 or 9 months ago. Proud to say I've filled out a bit since then. I'm a pretty good-lookin' guy now! Name's Dallas, but you can call me Dal, or you can call me Dallie, or you can call me sweeter 'n magnolia blossoms on a sunny June mornin'. Truth be told, everybody loves me - canine coaches, staff, & volunteers! Flock around me like flies on honey, like skeeters on sweat, like...well...you get the picture. I reckon I like all the brushin', the pettin', the cuddlin'. If that makes me sissified, so be it. Makes me no nevermind who's doin' it - youngins, bigguns, critters like me. I love 'em all! Can't be helpin' that I'm so handsome, smart, and here's the best part - I'm gettin' on to that house trainin' thing! Much as I like it here, I know that if I move out, there'll be room for some other poor critter to move in and get the lovin' care he or she needs. So come take me for a walk, maybe take me home how 'bout? See ya soon!

Hello.  My name is Kate.  Last week, you met my daughter Giselle.  I just wanted to take a moment and let you all know how much I appreciate you taking the time to listen to her story.  I am so thankful that the shelter is offering such a wonderful special this month to help my babies find great homes.  However, there is only about a week left to get a black puppy for only $50!  I'm getting nervous, you know?  There are still 5 of my children waiting to find their furever homes.  While I am doing fine in the kennels, it would just completely break this mother's heart to see my little ones have to come back here because they have gotten too big or too old to be up front.  I am just thrilled that we are no longer wandering around in the woods fighting every day to survive.  At 3 years old myself, I can easily cope with the fact that I may never get another chance at having a loving family of my own, but my pups shouldn't have to think those thoughts!  It is not their fault that no one ever got me spayed before I got pregnant.  I think being spayed now has given me some inner peace...I will never have to worry like this again.  So, if you've been considering opening your heart and home to a new furry family member, PLEASE consider one of my beautiful little babes... you won't regret it!  Mommies promise!
Thanks!
Kate

You are about to be impressed! My name is Giselle. Wanna know why I'm so unique? I am a completely black dog! That's right...no white spots, no brown spots, no stripes anywhere! 100% beautiful black dog. Some of you may not know that being all black is rare, but trust me, it is! Especially at a shelter! Anyway, me and my 7 siblings and our mom, Kate, (yeah...Kate plus 8, real original, right?) were brought to Dogwood a few weeks ago. We had wondered around the woods taking care of ourselves, but it just got to be too much for mom. So, we wandered onto a farm seeking some assistance. Thank goodness we ended up here! 7 of us are females! Just imagine how many more babies would end up wandering around in the woods if we hadn't come here and gotten spayed! Geesh!!! Hurts my head just thinking about it! Here's the cool part: the bigger black dogs out in the kennels pulled the manager aside and reminder her that April is Big Black Dog Syndrome Awareness Month. You see, those of them that have been here a long time look forward to April in hopes of finally getting discovered by their fur-ever family. The problem is, when there are adorable "little" black dogs up front (like me!), the kennel dogs don't even get looked at! So, in trying to be proactive for the big guys, any "little" Big Black Dogs can be adopted for only $50 in January!! Woo-hoo! I can just feel it in my heart that I'll be going home soon! There are only 5 of us black (ish) puppies available, so don't dawdle! Get here right now! We are already spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots, and micro-chipped. Heck of a deal if you ask me, but I am young, so what do I know?!

Adopt Bernie!

ADOPTED!
Merry Christmas from Bernie "the Bear!"
Well hello everybody!!!  My name is Bernie, but everyone at the shelter calls me Bernie the Bear because I am so fuzzy-wuzzy... Anyway, I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas because it's my first one ever!  I'm only 7 weeks old and I am sooo excited!  The other dogs told me to be good and look cute and I'll have a good chance at getting my furever home just in time for Christmas.  I've been trying REALLY hard, but today is Thursday and the shelter is closed tomorrow and Saturday.  This radio show with these awesome guys is my last chance!  So, what I want to tell you is this...I'm cuter than you can imagine, I'm a fun-loving future ball fetcher, I am already aware that I am not suppose to go potty on the floor (I'm just a little confused about where I am suppose to go, so I need some help with that, ok?), I enjoy being outside every once in a while, I play nice with the other dogs, and I am a snuggler!  Really, what else do you need?  I'm more entertaining than an Ipod, you won't need a controller to play with me, and, truth be told, I am waaaay better than any dumb ol' Christmas kitten!  Seriously! So, please, stop by the shelter today (it's my last chance before Christmas) and take me home already!
Thanks,
Bernie (the Bear)

Adopt Deacon!

ADOPTED!
8 whole pounds of love comin' attcha!  Hi!  I'm Deacon and I'm a rough and tumble kinda guy...in my own head.  It's my belief that I'm the biggest, toughest, lovin-est dude at the shelter.  I may only be 3 months old, but I can teach you a thing or two, I'm sure.  I found my own way to someone's door when I was abandoned, so I'm pretty resouceful.  I know how to make the ladies at the shelter shower me with love and treats, and I even got my own sweater when I shivered in front of one of them.  I know how to play the game, so training ain't nothin' but a thing to me!  Tell me what ya want, I'll make it happen.  Also, I currently have quite a few friends available for adoption at the shelter.  So, if I'm too much to handle, come check out my compadres!
Thanks,
Deacon

Adopt Mater!

Look, I know that God did not make any ugly puppies, but you've got to admit that I'm about the cutest one you've ever seen!  I mean seriously, I should be given a spotlight!  I've got it all...a low profile, strong legs, a perfect head, and a smile that can improve anyone's day!  I'm a Basset mix!  No better dog anywheres, I swear!  Being a whole 3 1/2 months old, I know these things, as I'm a wordly guy.  They listed me as a stray, but really I'm just a traveler.  I ain't complainin' though, it was gettin' kinda cold out on the road.  So listen, if you're looking for a little buddy who will follow you anywhere your heart desires, I'm your guy.  Oh, and if you could come get me before Christmas, that would be GREAT!  I hear that some dogs get their very own stockings hung over the fire.  I could go for that!
See you soon,
Mater

Adopt Kyra

ADOPTED!
Hmmm...describe myself in three words or less?  Old, fat, & happy!  How do you like that?  My name Kyra and I am 8 years old.  Unlike most cats, I am pretty low maintenance!  I just want a warm place to rest my paws.  Oh, and by the way, those paws are de-clawed!  I'm really too old to ruin any furniture anyways!  I have been told that it's pretty hard to find a face cuter than mine.  Makes me feel pretty special, you know?  I know I'm some sort of tiger tabby mix, but my silver color confuses some people as well as my mushy face!  I enjoy a little bit of snuggling, but only on my terms...I'll let you know when, deal?  Admitting my weakness, I am a little shy at first just because I was surrendered after being in a home.  My first family was unable to take care of me anymore and I am scared about getting attached again.  I know you'll understand.  Anyway, it's Adopt a Senior Pet Month so I thought I would put myself out there and see if I can't get a new home in time for the holidays!  No better use for $50 bucks!  I promise!

Adopt Dolly
ADOPTED!
Hello!
My name is Dolly and I'm a senior pet! Although I am 7 years old, I recently had a litter of pups! I am tired! Being a mom is probably the best thing I've ever done, but truthfully, at my age, I'm glad I am now spayed. You may remember seeing a couple of my babies a few weeks ago...Andre & Jewel? Guess what? All four of my babies are still waiting for adoption. I can't believe it! Did you not see their faces? Pups don't get any cuter. Well, November is Adopt a Senior Pet month and I'm suppose to talk to you about all of us older pets here waiting for adoption. For only $50 you get a companion who is already spayed or neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and micro-chipped. Quite the great deal if you ask me! I would like to leave you with this thought...if you don't think a senior pet is the way to go, would you PLEASE consider one of my babies?
Thanks for listening!

Adopt Moppet
ADOPTED!
Hello! I'm Moppet...I visited with you all back in June, but since I'm still here at the shelter, I thought I would give it one more shot! You see, November is Adopt a Senior Pet month! That means that any cat or dog 5 years or older can be adopted for only $50. No better deal anywhere. Spay/neuter has already been taken care, all of our shots are up-to-date, and everyone at the shelter has a micro-chip! Now, honestly, I am only about 2 1/2 years old, but because I have been at Dogwood for over 2 years now, they are allowing me to be included in the special! Isn't that awesome? The staff are always looking for ways to help us find our furever homes, ya know? I was abandoned at the shelter over 2 years ago with my four siblings. I am the only one left and it's hard for me to understand. I am a mellow kind of girl who enjoys the sunshine and little bit of loving every now and then. I am never demanding and get along well with everybody. I just know that if you give me a chance I will be able to fit right into your life and add that little something extra you've been looking for! Please come soon, I would love to spend the holidays with my very own family!
Thanks!
Adopt Addie
ADOPTED!
Uh...HELLO?! It's Addie again! I'm really having trouble believing that I am STILL HERE!!!! Not only am I the absolute cutest dog here, I'm also the smartest! I mean really...it's not rocket science...come get me already! I have had three homes and been brought back 3 times! Wanna know what's really not fair...? Not once was it my fault that I got brought back. All three times I was brought back because the adopters had health issues! One was allergic and two ended up in the hospital! If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. When I was found in a Walmart parking lot by a wonderful lady, I figured I must be a pretty lucky girl...not any more! Do you blame me? I've learned to sit, stay, walk on a leash, fetch a toy, but to what end? To end up in the kennels with the big dogs? I refuse to perform just for someone's entertainment! Truly it should be me who gets entertained! Shame on me, but I got excited when I heard October was adopt a shelter dog month. Well, it's almost over and here I still sit! Whatever!!! Now I'm 7 months old and no better off than I was in the parking lot. I realize I may sound a little snotty, but do you blame me? I just want what I want when I want it! A home!
Breezy

ADOPTED!
Breezy...

that's my name!  I have heard that I am a VERY good example of a shelter dog.  I have no specific breed, you see?  I'm smallish, making my way to medium of sorts, I have some long hair, some short hair, a few wayward whiskers, my body is long, my legs...not so much, my tail is...well, you can see it for yourself.  To make a long story short, I am a good spokes-dog for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!  I came to Dogwood about 4 weeks ago with my 3 litter mates.  Our memories aren't quite clear on the matter, but we do know we were "dropped-off" on some farm.  The farmer has way too much on his plate and couldn't take care of us, so here we are at Dogwood looking for homes.  For the month of October, all dogs, young and old, that have been waiting for their furever homes for more than 30 days can be adopted for only $50!  Me and my sisters are only 3 months old so, we haven't been spayed yet.  Because of that, there is an additional deposit that has to be placed for us until you bring us back for our surgeries.  That's just the shelter's assurance that we come back so we don't have any puppies that might get dumped themselves!  See how neat that works?!  Anyway, the adoption fees always include spay/neuter, all shots, and everybody here is micro-chipped!  Please stop by the shelter!  I'm sure that even if it's not me you pick, there is someone waiting for you here!
See you soon!

Wanna play? I wanna play! Do you wanna play? Let's play!
Hi! I'm Peaches and I am 5 whole months old!!! I have been at Dogwood since July, and while I am having lots of fun, I really would like to go home now! I had a home once for just a little bit, but they couldn't take care of me so they brought me to the shelter. It wasn't my fault, but I sometimes feel like I must have done something wrong. I tell you, I am the complete package! I am already spayed (no pups for me!), I have all of my puppy shots (rabies too!), and I am micro-chipped (don't want to be a "lost" dog, you know!)! I enjoy going out on walks and I also have the ability to wear your kids out! Bed time will be a breeze with me around, I promise! There's more good news too! October is "adopt a shelter dog month"! So.... that means any dog that has been available for adoption at Dogwood for more than 30 days can be adopted for only $50! If someone is not old enough to have been spayed or neutered yet (not me!), you will have to make a deposit until you bring them back for surgery. All in all it's a GREAT deal. Have you ever had a best friend that cost less than that? Nope!
See you soon!

Megan Marie
ADOPTED!
Hi!
My name is Megan Marie which is much more than just some name! You see, I was a stray found all by my little lonesome by some wonderful people who took care of me until the shelter could take me in. They brought me to Dogwood for my first round of puppy shots and while I was there, the shelter staff asked if they could call me Megan Marie. A few weeks before I came, there was a wonderful older dog here at Dogwood with that name. She stayed up front with the girls in the office so that she would be comfortable in the air conditioning and have a nice soft bed. They guessed that she was at least 15 years old! Like me, she was a stray found all by herself. I believe in my heart that Megan Marie at one time had a home of her own. She must have gotten lost because no one would dump an old dog like that, would they? Anyway, I am hoping for my very own home soon, but I am willing to wait for the right one. Once I leave the shelter, I only want to come back to visit and play, not stay!...

say...!
Designer Dogs? No way! We're much better than that! When you can't decide on exactly what you want, say for dinner, you can't just say "let's have it all" can you? Nope! Don't know what to wear...can't wear it all! But, if you can't quite decide what kind of dog you want...a mutt (that's us!) is the easy answer. Why live life worrying about what decision is the right one? We can be whatever you want, when you want it! Want a water dog today, let's go swimming...want a lap dog another day, we got that covered! How about a retreiver?...throw something already, we'll get it! You never know what we're "made" of, but you can be sure we all have hearts of gold! So, you see, the answer is quite simple! Adopt a shelter dog! It's the easiest decision you'll ever make (not to mention the BEST!).

Thanks for listening! Can't wait to see you at Dogwood Animal Shelter!

Well Hello! How are you? We're Farrah and Lindsey. We came to Dogwood with our other 2 sisters quite a few weeks ago. We were found all by ourselves with no mommy in sight. We were sooo little that it took a while to get us healthy enough for adoption. But, guess what? The vet says it's time to find us a home! How exciting, right? Now, there are a few things we should tell you right away. We want to pampered (we are girls after all!), we have gotten used to having our food & water bowls full, flea prevention is a must (ladies should NOT have bugs!), treats are devine, we LOVE shoes like any other girl (we just chew them, that's all), outside time is another favorite, and pretty much any other "bling" you would like to bestow upon us would be accepted with gratitude. So, thanks for listening and hope to see you real soon!

Hey! It's Remi again!
I'm an soooo excited that I get to be on the radio AND in the newspaper this week!!! You see, the vet said last week that it would be best for me to be in a home all my own to speed up my recovery. However, I am still here! I don't understand. I really thought someone would come get me and love me all better. Well, because I have had to stay here, for my safety, I have had to be in a room all by myself. If I am allowed to run around with the other animals, I might get hurt and mess up my jaw. It's fragile you know... 300 other animals, 16 employees, countless volunteers, and I'm STILL lonely. Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? Now you know why I am so looking forward to my radio interview. I will actually get to leave the shelter if only for a few hours. My hope is that my fur-ever best friend listens to 107.9, The Coyote, or is an avid local newspaper reader. I just know in my heart that you are out there somewhere waiting for me like I am waiting for you. But, I can't drive, so it's up to you to come get me, ok?

ADOPTED!
I am the ittiest, bittiest, kitty-est at Dogwood Animal Shelter! My name is Freeway and, as if you couldn't already guess, I was found alongside the highway. I'm not sure how I got there, but now I am at Dogwood and life is pretty cool here. I really would like a home of my own though. You see, as cats should be, I am a rather curious soul. My only complaint here is that I don't get out of my kitty play area very much so I can't go exploring! I think I am about 9 weeks old, but since I can't even remember how I got on the highway, you can't really expect me to remember my birthday, right? Anyway, I know inside my little kitty heart that I am going to be the best cat anyone could ever ask for! PLEASE come adopt me!! I need room to roam! (toys are great too!) Thanks for listening!

ADOPTED!
Ok, what do you think about when you hear the name Apollo?
Landing on the moon, Greek God, Gold Medalist, the famous theatre?... the list goes on and on. Not to brag or anything, but I am named after greatness! However, I am still waiting to be discovered at Dogwood Animal Shelter. I don't get it...I was born here at the end of April this year, made available for adoption in June, and still waiting in August! I have done my best to live up to my name, but it has become apparent that grovelling may become necessary in order to get out of here. I am still on the small side, but getting bigger every day. I have heard the older cats talking in the next room and they say that if us kittens don't get adopted soon, we will end up being here for a very long time. How am I suppose to live up to my potential when I am stuck in the kitten room all the time? Please help me. I will be the best kitten, then cat, you could ever hope for! My name guarantees it.
Thanks!

Carmel & Randy comin' atch ya!
We're siblings of the "Lab-stiff" breed (lab and mastiff mix)! Our feet might be big, but they're webbed! Take us swimming please... We LOVE the pool on the puppy patio at the shelter, but a creek, stream, river, or lake sounds like tons more fun. You really couldn't ask for a better mix of breeds you know! Labs are smart, obedient, and loyal to the end...Mastiffs are easy-going, gentle, all-around good dogs. Seriously, what fault could you find? And, to top all that off, we (& our 3 sisters still at the shelter) are just the cutest puppies you will ever come across in your life! We swear! Treats are great, toys are fun, laps are best, blah, blah, blah... we're not selling used cars here, it shouldn't be so hard! Please come get us, we're ready to be part of a family, not a pack.
Thanks,

Hi!  I'm Gatsby, and yes, I'm GREAT!
My momma came to the shelter already pregnant, so I was born here at Dogwood.  At 3 months old, I am almost ready to be neutered!  That means that I will not be the cause of any more homeless kitties like me.  I am sooo proud of that.  Besides, if I understand it right, being neutered makes me more likable and takes away a few health risks too!  Like I said to begin with, I'm great!  That means healthy, playful, eager to please, ready to be your best friend, I get along well with others, I have all my shots, and even my very own micro-chip!  Talk about ready to go!  It only takes a few minutes to fill out my adoption paperwork and claim me as your very own fuzzball!  Bring your photo I.D., permission from your landlord if you rent, and a lap for me to sit in and I'm all yours!
See you soon,
Gatsby

Adopt Mercedes & Porsche!

ADOPTED!
We are Mercedes and Porsche...you can call us Little M and the Divine Ms. P! We are incredibly special and we know it!!! We were born here at the shelter back in the clinic. We have had a little bit of a hard time getting ready for adoption. Some days we haven't felt too good, so we have been going home with some of the staff members here. (Some days we felt ok, but we still wanted to go home with somebody!) Anyway, we really would like to stay together if possible. You see, we both feel so much better with our sister near. Our momma was a Jack Russel mix and only weighed about 30 pounds. We expect that we will stay on the small side as well. Although, we have discovered that treats are a wonderful thing! When we smell those, we don't care one little bit about our girlish figures! You must know that special girls require special humans. So, if you feel that you are the right fit for us, stop by and we'll give you a sniff or two!

Beautiful! That is the only word needed to describe me, nothing else. So, come get me already. Can you believe that I am stuck in a room with other cats!? Seriously! I even have to eat from the same bowl as them! I am declawed in front because of my love of all things silk! That way I don't snag my bed; it must stay pristine! I demand it. I am a very loving girl when I choose to pay attention to you. As it should be, everything goes according to my plan, schedule, and comfort. Thank goodness I am already spayed; children are not my idea of a good time! I barely have time to take proper care of myself and my things let alone some whiny little kittens. My vaccinations are up-to-date as well. I wouldn't have it any other way! Why aren't you here to get me yet?

Adopt Marci!

ADOPTED!
Hi again everyone! It's Marci. On the 18th of this month I will be 11 months old. I really had hoped that I would have a furever home before my first birthday, but it's not looking so good. All of my siblings have found their homes and are doing well. I sure would like to know what it's like out there. I have been at Dogwood since I was just 8 weeks old! My mama was what they call a stray, so once we were weaned, she took off and I haven't seen her since. My sister, Peppermint Patty, kept my spirits up pretty good, but just last week she got adopted. I'm trying my best not to be depressed, but I sure do miss my brothers and sisters a lot. I just think that if I could concentrate on being a good member of a human family, I would feel so much better. I am a very smart girl (that's what my caretakers say). I know how to sit, I listen very well, and I enjoy going out on a leash. Please, if you are looking for a friend, consider me. You will NOT regret it...that is my promise!!!

Sorry we're so tired, but it sure is fun here at the shelter! We have played all day and could not stay awake for our photo-op! Besides, we both wanted to get our beauty sleep for the radio this morning. We are Chelsea & Krista, the two cutest sisters you ever will see. Humans are still a little scary for us, but we're trying really hard to trust everyone a little more. Treats sure are GREAT! Once we figured that part out, it was easy to be brave. We would love to meet you all and test our new social skills. Visiting hours at the shelter are from 10am - 5pm Monday thru Friday, and Saturdays from 10am - 4pm. We will be closed on Monday the 5th in observance of the holiday. Make sure to stop by soon; our social calendars will be filling up quickly!

Good Day!
My name is Moppet and I currently reside at Dogwood Animal Shelter! I really rather enjoy my days here, but am getting tired of sharing absolutely everything. I mean come on! Just once I would like to walk out on the patio and get the sunny spot on the log without having to scare someone else away. Don't get me wrong, I am a very loving girl and would make a great addition into any family; it would just be nice to be one of two, maybe three cats...not 150! Don't forget that June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month. In other words...Hurry up already!
Thanks for listening,

Adopt Jack!

ADOPTED!
Hello, My name is Jack and I have lived here at Dogwood most of my one and a half years. As you can see, I have a beautiful, shiny black and grey coat. Come a little closer and you will notice a little orange coloring around my face. Although I am worthy of more, I truly just want to be comfortable, loved, played with and live a fulfilled life. You will find that I am quite smart, playful, loving, and err on the side of mature! I do enjoy spending time with people. So, let me just part with this message: Rescue at cat, namely me. I am waiting!
Love,
Jack

Duke and Duchess

ADOPTED!
Hey, Roundman. How's it goin'? Remember me? I'm Duke and this is… well… my significant other… Duchess. Yeah… we're back at the shelter. We first went there three years ago, after our owner died and his wife went to a nursing home. That was tough. It took a year and a half to find us a new home. Even tougher, our new owners had to move to a place where we aren't welcome. So… here we are… again… after two great loving homes.

Shouldn't complain, though. Two squares a day, roof over our heads, lots of action around us, comfy bed, and most of all, Duchess and I are still together. Tell ya what. Duchess and I have lived through some tough times together and we've managed to stay mellow. Huh… maybe that's not too unusual at 10 and 12 years old, though, huh?

Yeah! 10 and 12 years old! Where did the time go? Not much chance of anyone wanting to give us a real home at our ages. The way we look at it, though, what's age? Say we have two to maybe five years left. That's up to 5 years of the best doggie love anyone could have. And the bonuses!!! You know, we're totally housebroken: I bark when I need to go out and Duchess stares pitifully at the door. We don't want to go for long walks and we'll take kisses, hugs and pats any day over chasing balls. And you sure don't have to worry about us chewing stuff up with our old teeth! Yeah, man. We're mellow, alright. We don't need or want much. Happiness is a warm doggie bed and a couple of treats.

But, here's the thing, Roundman. If you could help get Duchess a real home, I'd be mighty beholden to you. I'd miss her somethin' awful, but if we both can't be happy, please let it be her. I could find a lot of happiness just knowing Duchess has a loving home.

OK, my man. Do what you can. And… please know… we bless you for it!

is my name...finding a home is my game! Hi All! I am another one of Dogwood's Big Black Dogs. However, I am only 8 months old, so I'm not so big yet. You previously had the pleasure of meeting my brothers, Linus & Schroeder. Luckily, Linus has found a home, but Schroeder, Marcie, and myself are still waiting. Just a reminder...Big Black Dog Syndrome awareness month ends this Friday! Please don't wait any longer! I am getting so nervous thinking about having to leave the puppy room and go to the kennel. I am keeping my hopes up though because so far this month 29 black dogs have been adopted from Dogwood. So, I know that my family is out there somewhere. Thanks for listening and I hope to see you soon! (By Friday please)

Cheese!!! No, really, do you have some? I'm smiling already! My name is Midnight and if you can't tell by my name alone, I am another one of Dogwood's Big Black Dogs! I have been at the Shelter since February 2006. Will someone please come take me home? I got the chance once, but they brought me back because I was NOT aggressive! Can you believe that? It's ok though, they wanted to leave me chained outside and I prefer to be part of the family myself. Kids are great too! (they drop food and crumbs...he-he!) So, if you are looking for a best friend and someone to share your secrets (and treats!) with, I'm your guy!
Hope to see you soon.

Izzy
ADOPTED!
Hi Everyone!
My name is Izzy! I am yet another Big Black Dog at Dogwood Animal Shelter, but I will tell you why I'm a little different. You see, I have a problem with my eyes. It is called Entropion. In other words, my eyelids roll in and cause the hair to rub my eyeballs. I don't complain much, but it does hurt a lot so you may see some tears in my eyes on occasion. The vet told my caretakers that I have a very severe case and that if I don't get surgery I will go blind! I really enjoy this beautiful world around me and hope that my caretakers can find a way to help me. The surgery is going to cost at least $450! I know that the shelter does not have that kind of money laying around, but I am a positive thinker, so I will just keep hoping! If you would like to help my caretakers help me, please write my name, Izzy, on any sized donation. (Even $5 would go far!) 100% of ALL donations given to Dogwood Animal Shelter go directly to our care & our caretakers put absolutely every penny to good use! However, after food, shots, micro-chips, and the normal spays & neuters, there are not enough funds leftover for "extras." But, like I said, I am an optimistic girl, so I know that there are those of you out there who will come through for me! Thanks in advance!
Champ

ADOPTED!
Hello Dog Lovers!
I am Champ and I am so excited to let you know that my sister, Carley, has been adopted! It is my pleasure to replace her as Dogwood Animal Shelter's "spokes-dog" and continue to teach you all about "Big Black Dog Syndrome!" I arrived with Carley and the rest of our litter on January 2, 2005! I have never had a chance to leave the shelter! Although I am only 5 years old, I have become a little grey around the chops! Don't let that fool you though, I am VERY young at heart! Because of "Big Black Dog Syndrome" I don't get noticed at all! I apparently blend in with all the other black dogs. I just wish (like all the other black dogs here) that some one would just give me a chance! If you come visit me, please get a leash and take me out for a walk. One on one I can show you all that I have to offer. I am very interested in getting out of here so that I can find out what this thing called a "ball" is that the incoming dogs talk about. They all miss it whatever is, so it must be something special. Do you have one? If so, I would LOVE to help you take care of it!

Piper

ADOPTED!
Hello everyone!
My name is Piper! I was introduced to you last week in place of my friends, Linus and Schroeder. They were busy spreading the message about "Big Black Dog Syndrome" and asked me to fill in for them at the last minute. Because it is such an important topic, I had no problem getting up early and coming to the radio station! All of us "little" big black dogs know all too well what happens when we get too big to stay up front in the puppy room. We have to go in back to the "kennels" (sounds like a scary place to me!) where we will blend in with all the other black dogs. Someone said that maybe black dogs are overlooked because the seem scary. Look at me! Do I really look scary? I really am a marshmallow (don't tell the boys please!)! My goal in life is to be a lap dog! While the sun is shining, I will play with you, love you, sit with you, and follow you anywhere! When the moon is out, I will watch over you and keep you safe until the sun rises again! Just give me a chance, I promise I will stand-out to you and for you!
Thanks for listening,
Piper

Churchill

ADOPTED!
This stub-tailed cutie is Churchill. She has been with us since May, 2009. Although we are not sure of her age, we are guessing that she is a young adult. Love and attention is what she's looking for. She adores everyone and will play as long as you are willing. Stop by the shelter and give her a chance. She will prove to you what a great cat she is!

Tank

ADOPTED!
This handsome fella is Tank!  He is a very sweet, out-going kind of guy.  People always comment about how quiet he is!  He gets along with everybody...puppies, older dogs, and even cats.  Tank was found by the shelter staff upon their arrival to work one morning in last June.  He learned all of the basic commands quickly and does pretty good on a leash.  He will be turning one in March... maybe adoption paperwork will be his birthday present!

Grumpy

ADOPTED!
Grumpy
came in with the other 6 "dwarfs" in October, 2006. He and his twin, Doc, are both still here at Dogwood! While he is extremely handsome, he is also very shy. But, once he gets to know you, he'll play all day! Grumpy has done well with the obedience trainers, learning sit, down, & come. When first put on a leash he pulls a little, but after a bit, he enjoys the walk! Won't you come be his "Snow White"?!! "Hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to a home he goes!" And...don't forget about his twin brother, Doc!

Ebony

ADOPTED!
Ebony
is such a handsome guy! We just don't understand why he hasn't found a "fur-ever" home yet! He came to Dogwood Animal Shelter just six weeks old, almost FIVE years ago! Our canine coaches have taught him how to sit, stay, lay down, and come. He loves to earn his treats! He still pulls a little on the leash, but with more frequent walks, we're sure he would learn the "heel" command as quickly as he learned the others! Come by the shelter and visit Ebony; you won't regret it!

Delta

ADOPTED!
Delta
is one of our newest "inmates"!  We couldn't resist putting her in this adorable prisoner garb donated to us.  Delta and her litter-mates arrived via a box at Dogwood!  We believe that she and her brothers are sheppard/husky mixes.  Delta was the only girl and is absolutely the boss of the puppy pile!  We estimate her to be approximately 10 weeks old.  Stop by and help her escape!  (At least from her brothers!)

Spanky ADOPTED!
Here's Spanky!
He is a very affectionate, playful, loving, cross-eyed cat! Yes, I said cross-eyed! Spanky has a long, sad story with a happy ending. He was found in a chemical filled ditch as a kitten. The chemicals burned his inner eyelids, requiring him to endure many rounds of treatments to get better. We then moved Spanky to the adoption area so that he could find a home. However, within days, we noticed he was having problems with his eyes again. Unfortunately, the chemical burns to his inner eyelids caused his lashes to begin growing inward towards his eyes, causing an infection. The only way to remedy this problem for Spanky was to remove the inner eyelids. Because of this, he now appears to be cross-eyed! There was a lot of concern about him losing his sight for a while, but our little trooper pulled through without a problem. He now requires eye drops as needed to help him lubricate his eyes, but other than that, he is the purr-fect cat! Wouldn't he look great in your window sill?

Cosmo!
He is the coolest little guy. We think that Cosmo is a Cattle dog/Beagle mix. He is definitely unique. He loves to play and also thinks he might be a lap dog! He shows a lot of loyalty to his human counterparts and tries his hardest to be the "good boy!" Come visit him at Dogwood Animal Shelter and get to know him! Won't you please give him a home so that he no longer has to be the "stray?"
Peanut
ADOPTED!
Adopt Peanut! Peanut is a male cat, about 1 year old. Big beautiful yellow eyes - gets along great with other cats and dogs. He loves to chase the laser pointer too!
Skippy

ADOPTED!
Skippy is an 8 year old Lab mix. He was returned to the shelter after 7 years because his owner had to relocate, where she could not keep an animal. Skippy came from a good home. He's affectionate, loving to give and receive hugs. He's housetrained and enjoys playing with other dogs and children, too. There's no question, if you adopt Skippy, that you are getting the best dog you've ever had.

Toodles

ADOPTED!
Toodles is about as close to the perfect companion as any dog can be. She's a 1 1/2 year old bull terrier mix, medium-sized and extremely affectionate. Toodles loves people, though she tends to be a bit shy when first meeting someone. She's the kind of dog that loves to hang out with one person at a time, following at the person's side. Besides loving people, Toodles gets along great with other dogs and is playful and energetic. Our kennel staff say that she's obedient, attentive and actually a lot of fun, the kind of dog with whom a person bonds. Toodles is just hoping for a home where someone will be her best friend.

Rocky

ADOPTED!
Velvet came to us in mid-March as a stray; she was pregnant and about to deliver pups. She's a beautiful young, brindle and white Basenji mix. She was a very good mama to her 6 healthy puppies. All of them have been adopted now, but Velvet is still here - waiting. Though she has experienced motherhood, Velvet’s still got some puppy qualities herself. She's alert, energetic, playful and loves attention! Come and visit with her. We’re hoping she doesn’t have to wait too long for someone special to come rescue her!

Rocky

ADOPTED!
Rocky is a medium-sized 4 year old spaniel mix who has lived at the shelter since May. He is truly a sweet, easy-going little guy, friendly with people, cats and other dogs. Rocky is very well-behaved and was obviously housetrained. He's also a great traveler, having been a companion dog for an over-the-road trucker. Rocky is ready to be your best pal!

Abigail, Alice and Martha

ADOPTED!

Abigail, Alice and Martha, also known as "The Reds", are three older pups who have lived at Dogwood Animal Shelter for approximately nine months. They came to the shelter as young pups in poor condition, the worst case of ticks we've ever seen. It took four employees and volunteers three hours to rid them of all the ticks.

The three girls, approximately six months old at the time, had had no human contact and therefore were terrified of humans. Martha has managed to become quite social, not so with Abigail and Alice, who take a great deal of time to trust people. Though Abigail and Alice have become friendly with our front office staff, they hide under the reception desk, terrified, when visitors come through the front door. These three girls are among the most lovable, affectionate dogs we've had at the shelter. Absolutely, they will make terrific additions to any family. But, before that can happen for Abigail and Alice, they need to be socialized.

Lily

ADOPTED!

Lily is a small, sweet natured middle aged dog with a heart problem which is being controlled by medication. She was found in someone's barn, hiding from a storm. She's been with us for a couple of months or so. She loves children, adults and other dogs and cats. She spends her days at the shelter following the med wing staff and volunteers around as they do their work. If there's too much commotion, she starts to wheeze, but a few quiet moments of one-on-one attention for her usually settles her back down.

We just received a litter of small abandoned pups. Lilly is fretting over them and trying to be their mom!

She'll be such a loyal friend for someone!
